NASCAR isn’t just about burning rubber; it’s also a chess match on wheels. Every pit stop, every fender bender, every yellow flag, and each tick of the clock during pit time can be the difference between the throne and the sidelines. Sometimes, victories come out of left field, leaving both fans and the NASCAR inner circle scratching their heads, all thanks to these strategic masterstrokes. Take Tyler Reddick at Kansas, for example; he rode the wave of a late caution to leapfrog past six competitors in a whirlwind two-lap dash.

Meanwhile, Joey Logano didn’t put all his eggs in one basket, opting for just two tires at the pit, which netted him a nifty 5th place finish. But amid these last-minute plot twists, all eyes were on HMS’s golden boy. A former crew chief from Hendrick Motorsports zeroed in on a move he pulled, which came close to throwing a spanner in his teammate?s race.

While many teams play the buddy system, pushing and supporting each other on the track, at the end of the day, every driver is in it for themselves, eyeing the checkered flag. For Chase Elliott, 2023 has been a year of near misses and not a single victory lap. With the weight of a winless season on his shoulders, he’s undoubtedly pulling out all the stops to chalk up at least one win and salvage his pride.

But in his bid to leave no stone unturned, it seems he might be stepping on some toes?even those within his own team. An eagle-eyed analysis by NASCAR veterans Todd Gordon and Steve Letarte (a former HMS employee) highlighted a telling moment. Reviewing a crucial pit stop clip, they observed that, despite having ample room to maneuver, Elliott seemed to throw a wrench in the works for his teammate Kyle Larson, causing the two to nearly lock horns.

Gordon noted the missed opportunity for a smoother pit exit, stating, “Here we got a little gap to the cardinals outside right, so you kind of get all the way over there, so as we clear it, watch the six pull out and watch what the five has to do,” agreeing to which Letarte mentioned, “Yeah, it?s just a racing deal, and I think the #9 gets upset, but he needs to understand somebody that the #6 is pulling out inside.”

However, Elliott’s response to the incident was neither here nor there, fueling the rumor mill and leaving fans on tenterhooks.

It appeared that during the final laps, Chase Elliott, in an attempt to carve out a path past #11, found Kyle Larson’s car playing spoiler, leading to a nudge between his vehicle and the No. 6 Ford Mustang. To some onlookers, it seemed as if Elliott was trying to send a not-so-subtle message to Larson. However, brushing off the speculations in his post-race chat, Elliott set the record straight with a succinct, “There was no message.”

Larson, however, wasn’t one to let sleeping dogs lie. He highlighted the tight, three-wide formation as the culprit. Asserting his own intentions, he remarked that he had been giving as much elbow room as possible, but with Keselowski acting as a roadblock, he thought, “The safest bet for all of us was for me to squeeze out a little bit.?
