Alex Bowman’s take on the Larson and Hamlin incident
During a pre-practice interview at Richmond, Michael Massie questioned Alex Bowman about the incident with Denny Hamlin. Bowman’s response was candid, highlighting the fact that sometimes crashes occur due to the aerodynamics of the cars. Massie probed further, asking whether crashing someone with the air is frowned upon in the sport. Bowman acknowledged that while manipulating the air is a common tactic to gain an advantage, it still results in turning the other driver around, leading to unavoidable crashes.
However, he noted that the new race car seemed to reduce some of these issues compared to the previous model. Different manufacturers have varying approaches, with Toyota being particularly adept at manipulating the air around the left rear of other cars.
“We got crashed with the air. I mean, that’s just as easy to crash somebody with air as it is running into him,” Bowman stated, emphasizing that such incidents are an inherent part of racing, saying, “God that’s just racing part of it.” He emphasized, “I mean that’s just part of it.”
