NASCAR created havoc after a last-minute decision during the Chicago Street Race. The race was scheduled to be one hundred laps, but due to weather issues and wet surfaces, the start was delayed by 90 minutes. NASCAR made the decision to shorten it to 75 laps due to impending darkness. The decision was a topic of conversation because NASCAR announced it on lap 47.
The decision to shorten the race was met with mixed reactions from drivers and fans. Some drivers felt that it was unfair to change the rules mid-race, one of them was pole-sitter Denny Hamlin.

At lap 45, just before the decision was made, eleven cars, including SVG’s car, took the opportunity to make a pit stop. Interestingly, most of these cars were from the tail end of the race. As they made their pit stops, they suddenly realized that the stage had ended, granting them extra time to make adjustments to their cars. Denny believes this call changed the whole scenario of the race. During his podcast “Actions Detrimental” he criticized the call and called it an “Unfair Move.”
“They made a call that changed the outcome of the race,” Hamlin said. “In their mind, it changed nothing because SVG won and e was on that strategy that of everyone that got screwed when they made that call but again that’s one person, you know there were many that never made it back toward they were supposed to be and you flip flop the field from the back and guys to the front guys.”
Denny was trying to make a point that the moment when NASCAR made a decision, SVG found himself in the 20th position, but just before eight laps remained until the race’s conclusion, he had managed to secure the lead.

“So either you have to leave people wondering or you have to make the call so early before the last fe run. Because they made a call after eleven cars pitted and then they said ‘Okay the race is ending on this lap’, those eleven cars hit the f**king lottery,” Hamlin said. Hamlin further revealed that if they were aware of the call earlier, they too make a pit stop at lap 45.

The Xfinity race was called off due to unfavorable weather conditions, and the Cup race faced a delay as well. Even after the race began, cars were sliding around despite having wet weather tires. As expected, the race was filled with crashes, but most drivers were able to continue their runs. One notable example was Kyle Busch, who had a significant wreck into tire barriers but still managed to secure a fifth-place finish.

While starting at the pole position in Grant Park, Denny encountered difficulties during the race and narrowly missed out on a spot in the top ten, ultimately finishing 11th. During the “Actions Detrimental” podcast, Denny attributed his poor performance to the challenging weather conditions.
Denny compared his dry qualifying run with wet race conditions. He said, “And we were in the dry just so so fast in the wet. I was a barrier machine. Well, I got in there once.”

“Man, they had a really that the city, in general, had a very tough go of it this weekend,” Hamlin said. “Many people said that it had not rained in like months there. it was they were basically in a full-on drought. and then a hurricane hits or something.”
“I mean, was it a hurricane? I mean it was spinning and sure as hell looked like it the on the radar. it was just spinning like a pinwheel.” Hamlin expressed his frustration by explaining the situation in Chicago.
