The NASCAR community is abuzz with controversy as Denny Hamlin, one of the sport’s most accomplished drivers, finds himself in the crosshairs of fans. Hamlin has come under fire for defending his team owner Joe Gibbs in the wake of the announcement that a minority stake in Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) is being sold to the sports-ownership group Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment (HBSE). Fans have labeled Hamlin a “liar” and a “hypocrite” accusing him of prioritizing his own interests and casting doubt on his loyalty.

As tensions rise, the future of Hamlin’s relationship with JGR hangs in the balance.

Denny Hamlin has been an integral part of Joe Gibbs Racing since 2005, amassing an impressive record of 49 Cup wins, 328 top-10 finishes, and 47 poles. However, the recent news of the minority stake sale to HBSE has ignited a storm of controversy, raising concerns about the team’s future trajectory.

Denny Hamlin Came to Joe Gibbs’ Defense, Kicking Up a Storm of Controversy

Hamlin’s public defense of Joe Gibbs and the minority stake sale has divided the NASCAR fanbase. Some fans have accepted his explanation, while others vehemently accuse him of deceit and self-interest. The conflicting opinions reflect the underlying debate about the true motivations and intentions behind the deal.

As per Bob Pockrass’s Twitter post, Hamlin said, “It’s really good for the organization for sure.”

“I think that you know allows Joe to take some chips off the table for sure. I mean he’s invested a lot into the sport and to now have an investment firm, that’s got a lot of resources. It is really really good for our team.”

Critics argue that Hamlin’s defense of Gibbs is a smokescreen, suggesting that his loyalty lies primarily with his own team, 23XI Racing, which competes against JGR. Accusations of self-interest and a lack of genuine concern for JGR and NASCAR as a whole have been leveled against Hamlin.

When asked if it holds any impact, Denny Hamlin said, “I don’t think it impacts my future… “

Speculations have also arisen that Joe Gibbs himself might be losing interest in NASCAR, leading him to sell his stake before the sport potentially declines further. Fans argue that Gibbs is betraying his loyal drivers and supporters and Hamlin is being complicit in order to secure his own future with his sponsor FedEx and his position at JGR. Here is what the fans are saying on the matter.
