When nature calls, you’ve got to answer – but when you’re in the middle of a NASCAR race, it’s a whole different ballgame! Unlike other sports that have scheduled breaks, racing doesn’t stop for anyone, not even for, well, bathroom breaks. Believe it or not, some NASCAR drivers have admitted to relieving themselves in their firesuits. It might sound like an awkward and embarrassing moment, but in the racing world, it’s more common than you think.

Just picture this: you’re in a car, going 200-300 laps, driving for hours, sometimes over two, and the heat is unbearable. Inside the car, it can turn into a hot box, with drivers sweating and losing fluids. To keep hydrated, they guzzle down water during the race. If you’ve watched a race, you’ve probably seen a crew member hand them a fresh bottle during a pit stop or seen them sucking down water from a bag in their car. But all that water has to go somewhere, and well, sometimes it just can’t wait. Recently, Parker Kligerman opened up about one of those moments.

Parker Kligerman decided it was time to hang up his helmet mid-season. Although he never won an Xfinity race, he had 16 top-5 finishes and 53 top-10s across 122 starts. But by the time this season came around, Kligerman felt like his focus was no longer on winning races or fighting for championships, and called it a day.

“I’ve thought about this for months, going back and forth,” Kligerman said when announcing his retirement. “I feel like I’ve done this. But I haven’t been as successful as I wanted to be, and that started to sink in.” Even though he didn’t win an Xfinity race, Kligerman had a solid career, with a few Cup and Truck Series starts, three wins in the Truck Series, and 10 wins in the ARCA Series. He’s had his share of highs and lows, but one thing he’ll never forget is that one awkward time when he just couldn’t hold it in. After wrapping up his final season in NASCAR in 2024, he shared a funny (and a bit embarrassing) story on Instagram.

In the video, he recalled, “Only one time. USAC Midgets I was under red flag I had to pee really bad. So we are stopped at the race track and I start peeing. Those cars have no underbody or anything. So an official came to me and said ‘hey you are leaking out of the back’. And I’m like ‘nah, nah, that’s me bro’.”

Parker Kligerman didn’t reveal exactly which race it was, but it likely happened before his ARCA days, around 2007-2008, when he raced in USAC events. He joked that it was the only time he’d had that issue. “I’ve avoided it ever since. So to all my interior guys over the last 15 years – you’re welcome for not being that guy who pees in every race.”

It might be a bit of an exaggeration to say some drivers pee in every race, but hey, there’s no denying that it happens to the best of them.

Kligerman isn’t the only driver to have found themselves in this awkward situation. Over the years, several NASCAR drivers have been caught in similar predicaments. Take Denny Hamlin, for example. He confessed to peeing in his fire suit during a race at Richmond. “My bladder is just dying, and so I get to pit road and they’re working on the damage, and I just closed my eyes and tried to think of something that would make me go. And as soon as I got the first dribble, boom. It was warm, and then it was cold. I never felt what it felt like to pee in my seat. But I kinda liked it. Is that weird?”

Tyler Reddick also found himself in a tight spot during the 2023 Charlotte ROVAL race. When asked about it, he simply said, “You don’t want to hold it!” And even Dale Earnhardt Jr. admitted to peeing in his suit more than once during his career. On the Dirty Mo Media podcast, he shared, “That’s the worst part is like, it’s gonna be hot. You’ve got to hydrate and you hydrate and you know, you’re gonna have to pee in the car. That’s not avoidable. And so you know, I think I don’t know, I peed in the race car, probably, I count on one hand in my career. But it happens, those are the worst.”

Meanwhile, some drivers, like Joey Logano, have managed to avoid the issue. When asked about it, Logano said, “I haven’t had to do that in a few years. I just store water. I’m like a camel, I never have to go to the bathroom. So I don’t know, but for some, it’s not a good situation to be in.”
