Running into the practice session for the Xfinity race at Sonoma, Boris Said had no idea he would crash his car hard. After all, he has nearly four decades of experience in racing. Said, who was announced as one of the drivers for Hendrick Motorsports’ 10 entries in the Xfinity Series in 2024, was left embarrassed after his practice week.
But what’s even more shocking for the 61-year-old is that his sole NASCAR race win came at Sonoma, hence, he had high hopes, but disappointment is all he could get his hands on. And to add to that, if you’ve ever encountered those eccentric, off-the-wall advertisements, Boris Said could very well have topped them all. Boris Said possibly delivered the quirkiest one yet on Friday following his crash at NASCAR Xfinity Series practice.

What’s happening in the NASCAR world? Veterans with years of experience are ramming their cars. But that’s not what’s shocking. What’s shocking instead is that they are doing it at the practice sessions. We just saw Kyle Busch, a two-time Brickyard 400 winner, crash off in turn 2 during the Goodyear tire test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Tuesday afternoon. And the saga continues with Boris Said.
With Boris, the crash was a rough one. So rough that the 61-year-old was embarrassed about it! He lost all his chances of getting into the good book of Rick Hendrick. But what’s worse was his attempt to save face. He coaxed fans to purchase cars from Hendricks Group’s dealership!
Boris Said, said to Frontstretch, “I just lost it—it was a driver error, and I take full blame. I mean after 38 years of racing that’s probably one of the most embarrassing things I have ever done. Just feel really bad.” He further expressed his concern saying he doesn’t know if Hendricks has a backup car.
Because Said crashed hard, there was pretty bad damage to the vehicle. He particularly felt sad not to stand tall to Rick Hendricks and his team members’ expectations for him. He didn’t try to sugarcoat his error on the track today and said, “Not many 61-year-olds get to race in a car that good. I made a mistake–simple facts”

He further talked to Fox for a television interview and mentioned a bizarre way to save his face so that an angry Rick Hendrick wouldn’t be as mad. He said, “Hopefully, we have a backup car, and hope I can get out there and maybe safe face and get some people to go to Hendrick cars.com. Maybe buy a car—that’ll help me out. I’m sure Rick’s going to be pretty mad I smashed up his really fast race car.”
Not sure if Rick Hendricks would accept his heartfelt, but NASCAR fans sure saw what went down. And when his emotional and bizarre after-crash apology surfaced, they were not having it. They flooded the socials expressing their distaste!

NASCAR fans, often loyal but quick to express disappointment, found themselves whirling when Busch suffered a brutal crash during practice. Comments like
“What’s up with Busch” flooded social media, and now, with Said facing a similar situation, fans are once again voicing their frustrations.Boris Said last won a race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series on August 22, 2010, at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada! So it’s been more than a decade since he has tasted victory. One fan highlighted this and said, “I don’t think it’s all that surprising he’s struggling. He’s at least 15 years past his prime and has only raced in 2 NASCAR races since 2017, and aside from all that competition is at an all-time high on road courses. He excelled in an era when there might’ve been 5 good road course drivers. Now there’s 30 of them at least.”
NASCAR drivers mostly get out on a high. Look at Kevin Harvick. He was great at his job; he got out in a high and now though away from track he is close to the sport as an analyst with FOX. One user commented, “Not surprising at all.” Suggesting that this is expected after all he is way past the retirement age. Take the example of Martin Truex Jr, who is getting asked repeatedly if he is retiring, and he is just 48! Another user highlighted the same sentiment that Said is way past his prime. He said, “Borris is way past it.”
It’s crucial to note that while most take Boris Said in high stature–he didn’t win many races in his career. One user said, “I think Boris is cool, but he’s literally never done anything impressive in NASCAR. Why has everyone propagated this myth that he’s such a great “ringer” when he’s never accomplished anything in the sport? None of the “ringers” ever have. I don’t get it.”

Ultimately time waits for none and while he may have had several accolades in his past–age is catching up to him. One user commented, “Father Time is undefeated” highlighting it!
What do you think? Do you find Said cool and hip for this age? Let us know!
