Earlier, Denny Hamlin landed himself in a lot of trouble. This all started because he tried to crack a joke aimed at Kyle Larson, who triggered a wreck at Talladega. Unfortunately for him, it backfired on him, and NASCAR and Toyota Racing did not appreciate the stunt. Owing to that, the #11 driver will have to undergo sensitivity training later this week.

This is the second time in the span of two years that a NASCAR driver has been hauled up for such an offense. Coincidentally, the last person to get into trouble for this was Kyle Larson himself, but that’s another story.

Coming back to Hamlin, the Toyota organization said, “We have spoken with Denny Hamlin regarding his tweet from yesterday. Toyota supports NASCAR’s decision to mandate sensitivity training for Denny and we will all move forward to together.”

Apparently, Hamlin wanted to poke fun at the fact that Larson suddenly swerved with no warning and caused a wreck. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver used a GIF from the popular TV show, Family Guy to drive the point home. Later on, fans pointed out that he was reinforcing negative stereotypes about Asian women drivers. Hamlin deleted the tweet, but the damage had been done.
This is the internet after all, and people would have shared, retweeted, or screenshot the tweet. So, even if he deleted the original tweet, he could not stop the idea from circulating around. Owing to this mess, NASCAR obviously felt that Hamlin should watch himself.

So the driver will undergo this mandatory training so that he does not do it again. In a way, he was very lucky, because Larson earned a season-long ban for his offense. As a result, the now-Hendrick Motorsports driver missed the remainder of the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series.
