Hendrick Motorsports star boy William Byron has had reasons to celebrate outside the tracks this week. He had a strong showing of speed and skill in Homestead-Miami on Sunday, finishing P4. Standing poised to fix his spot in Championship 4, he now has more cause for celebration before the next race in Martinsville. On Tuesday, Byron and his girlfriend, Erin Blaney, will be completing 4 years of their romantic relationship.
Taking to his Instagram handle to share moments from before the joyous day, the driver posted a video that reflects the deep friendship that the couple share.

26-year-old Erin Blaney and Byron first met in 2019. Owing to the former’s familial background in racing, it is no wonder that their paths crossed. After completing her education at the University of Alabama, Erin has been serving as the Executive Director of the Ryan Blaney Family Foundation. Their relationship initially stirred up a lot of talk in the garages, but they are now one of the most adored couples in the community. As they celebrate their togetherness for yet another year, Byron shared a video of Erin putting a friendship bracelet together to commemorate the day. He wrote, “Friendship bracelets are a struggle to put together”.

Keeping the #24 driver’s struggles with Erin aside, his relationship with Ryan himself is an interesting affair. Revealing to Hamlin earlier this year about his talk with the Team Penske driver back in 2019, he said, “I think Ryan and I are, we knew each other way back before I started dating her. So, it was a little awkward at first you know because I didn’t really ask him if I could date Erin. I don’t know if I should have. But he brought it up and I was like, ‘Yeah, we’re dating.’ But yeah, I mean we get along really well so yeah, it’s cool.”

When things began brewing between William and Erin back in 2019, they’d taken an offseason trip along with Ryan, Bubba Wallace, and a few of their friends. Talking about how he did not then know that Byron and his sister were a thing, Ryan said (as reported by NBC journalist Nate Ryan), “And we had made this plan before they started dating. She’d sent a text to our group chat, like, ‘Hey do you mind if Willy B. comes?’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t care. It’s fine.’ We had a good time. He was a little shy at first, not really knowing a ton of people in our group, but he’s a good guy.”
Setting his warnings in place as Erin’s brother, Ryan had also posted a picture of him holding a gun on the same day that Byron and Erin announced their relationship on Instagram.

Despite all the fun, there have been no hard feelings between the drivers. Byron had responded to Ryan’s post smiling, “That had people going nuts. I was a little scared, too, to be honest.” Ryan himself, however, had a little snag with the way Byron went about dating his sister. Not a big fan of the youngster not getting his permission first, he said, “That’s kind of the gentleman thing to do, not just kind of slide in there. These kids nowadays, they probably just go behind someone’s back, but I’d ask that competitor first. ‘Hey, do you mind if I take your sister on a date?’”

Both drivers are currently fighting for the 2023 championship title. They are yet to secure their spots in the Championship 4 race and will have the final shot at that at Martinsville on Sunday. Should they both manage to find their seats, it would no doubt put Erin Blaney on cloud nine. For now, our hearty wishes go out to Erin Blaney and William Byron!
