In an exclusive conversation with his crew chief, Hendrick Motorsports’ star driver, William Byron, opened up about his life outside the racetrack. The revelation? While racing full time in the NASCAR Cup Series, William Byron is simultaneously completing his studies. When asked by his crew chief, Byron disclosed that he was pursuing a degree in strategic communications, a field heavily oriented toward social media marketing. This revelation prompted a witty response from his crew chief, Rudy Fugle, who couldn’t resist taking a playful jab at the young driver.

The conversation unfolded as Rudy Fugle asked Byron, “So Edward asks what major did you study at Liberty… Still studying! And did you take online classes?”

To this, Byron responded, “Yes, yes to both. Strategic communications. So yeah, the online classes on there actually started the dual enrollment classes in high school when I was racing.”

Fugle, with a hint of sarcasm, continued, “So what’s the difference between communications and strategic communications?”

“I mean, that’s more so marketing, like more so social media marketing,” Byron replied.

Getting the final clues to the puzzle, Fugle took a light-hearted jab at him. “That’s why you’re so hard on everybody here. You know what to do.”

“Yeah, exactly,” Byron acknowledged.

As the NASCAR Cup Series heads to Bristol, both Byron and his crew chief are preparing to secure their spot in the Round of 12.
