Rome wasn’t built in a day. And neither was Hendrick Motorsports. Founder Rick Hendrick carefully planted its seed in the 80s and, over several decades of growth, it cultivated into one of the most successful NASCAR teams. With two of their drivers racing for the playoff title and the other two chasing the owner’s championship, this is the busiest time of the year for them.
In between the hustle to prepare for the next round in Texas, Hendrick Motorsports took a breather to ponder entertaining questions for their fans.

Rick Hendrick‘s social media team went behind the scenes to interview the unsung heroes of a racing team. The crew chiefs of Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, William Byron, and Alex Bowman gathered together to provide their insight. Not on the tracks or the race cars, but the most crucial question plaguing the NASCAR community right now. “How often do they think about the Roman Empire?”
In a clip posted on their social media page, the crew chiefs took turns revealing the most humorous inside scoop of Hendrick Motorsports. Rudy Fugle, the crew chief of the #24 team, thought about it “once a week”. #48 team’s Blake Harris concurred with, “I mean at least once a week”.
But it seems the failure of the #9 team to qualify for the playoffs left considerable free time on Alan Gustafson’s hand. Elliott’s crew chief confirmed, “Oh every day! Yeah, we’re talking every day”. Amusingly, Cliff Daniels also took out precious time each day to reflect on the empire despite assisting Kyle Larson to the top of the playoff charts.
While the crew chiefs are thinking about ancient Rome, their drivers are ready to wear kilts. We found this out as, after the crew, it was time for the men behind the wheel to share their thoughts.

In support of the chiefs’ quirky ritual, the drivers were asked another pertinent question. After all, the entire HMS fandom would like nothing more than to know, “Who is most likely to look good in a kilt?”
Unsurprisingly, Chase Elliott never gave the issue its due consideration before then. He admitted, “That wasn’t something I thought about as to who would look good in a Kilt.”
After a moment’s thought, the champion contender Kyle Larson knew who’d get his vote. He assessed, “William, I could see William wearing a kilt”.
Unfortunately for his fans, Byron quickly shifted focus to Bowman by saying, “I’d probably say Alex.” Elliott, on the other hand, simply picked up a paddle of Larson’s picture and declared, “Mr. Kilt”. But the #48 team would be proud to know that Alex Bowman was ready to adorn one the next time they think of the Roman Empire. The Chevrolet driver confidently picked up his own paddle and matter-of-factly stated, “I look good in anything”.

However, none of them would have anything other than Texas’ quad-oval on their minds this weekend, amid the frenzy and furor of the second round of playoffs.
