With two wins and three finishes inside the top 10, William Byron is having one of the best seasons of his NASCAR career so far. He was promoted full-time to the #5 team which then changed to the #24 team in 2018 after he impressed in Xfinity, Trucks, and K&N Pro Series.
But Byron’s beginnings in racecar driving started in a very unorthodox way.
Because while most drivers start racing in go-karts or dirt tracks, Byron began his racing career on a computer. Until 2012, Byron was a prolific iRacing driver with over 100 wins to his name.

Speaking in a post-race interview, William Byron claimed his Stage 1 and Stage 2 performances were “kind of status quo.” The young HMS driver also admitted that he needs to up his game when it comes to communicating information with his team on the radio as it ended up costing them big time at Dover.
“I wish I could be a little bit better in the things I say and how I say, in communicating that. We’re trying to get a little bit better and we just unfortunately got outside of the window that we had to work in and got ourselves too loose,” he confessed.
“But luckily got it back there at the end and finished 4th which is good.”
