Once again, Rick Hendrick’s youngest driver has delivered the goods. While his teammate and HMS’ once-in-a-generation talent, Kyle Larson, got his day ruined after a brief contact with Michael Jordan’s driver, the silly season’s most winningest driver avenged his teammate, outclassing the 23XI Racing driver.

The scene was electric as the youngest driver from the HMS garage drove his #24 Chevy across the line with his old man and boss watching the action unfold from the booths. As the driver racked up his 6th win this season, the 25-year-old also brought his boss a major milestone while the #24 HMS Chevy did the customary burnouts in front of a cheering crowd.

Sunday’s race in Texas was certainly a treat for HMS fans, despite Kyle Larson’s heartbreak in the closing minutes of the race. What looked like another Larson cruise into the victory lane quickly went off the rails as the #5 HMS Chevy went for a spin, slamming hard into the outer wall and ending his day in misery.

With the then-race leader going out of the race in a flash after a one-on-one with Bubba Wallace in the front, all eyes were on Wallace, who looked to claim his first win of the season. While Larson’s sudden fallout was a heartbreak for fans, his teammate pranced into action after Wallace lost focus amidst the battle with the #14 car of Chase Briscoe.

Despite leading almost 111 laps of the race, William Byron saw the opening and seized the opportunity as he pulled his #24 Chevy 3 wide to gain the lead. The driver then held on to the lead as the pack scrambled behind him to pick up what the 25-year-old left behind. His calculated and methodical approach sealed the deal as Byron successfully racked up his 6th win in 2023, advancing into the round of 8 and, more importantly, bringing HMS”s 300th win.

What followed next was the customary burnouts along with cheers from the stands. While he cherished the team’s monumental win, he also mentioned his ill-fated teammate, Larson in the post-race interview in the victory lane. He said, “No. 300 for Hendrick Motorsports, Kyle(Larson) really deserved this one, you got to say those guys were really fast all day and hate it for them at the end but man it was awesome to get our car to the front.”

Despite the soaring temperatures with one of the hottest races in Texas, fans still came out. And boy, they had a wonderful race. The race at the intermediate track simply was an emotional rollercoaster with all the bells and whistles for a runaway hit. From Kyle Busch’s early knockout to Larson’s late heartbreak before his one-on-one battle with his Las Vegas rival Wallace, the race had all the thrills and frills.

The scene was set for another Team Rick Hendrick finish by Kyle Larson. With just 19 laps to go, Larson and Wallace went side by side with neither driver backing out. The Chevy and the Toyota were inches apart from each other as both the cars went for the kill, looking for any opportunity until Larson ran up the track. While Wallace tried his best to stay out of contact, the frantic pace of the duel meant the contact was unavoidable.

After a brief contact, Larson lost control of his car and went spinning into the wall, crashing his way out of the race. Reflecting on the back and forth post the restart Wallace said, It was fun until it wasn’t obviously more for him but we were both going for it and I just told Claire, I was like, Oh damn, it actually stuck on the top and I think he was like, Oh it stuck on the bottom and so I thought it was going to be a dog fight to the end.”
