How much is too much? And who decides it? Is winning NASCAR Cup Series‘ Most Popular Driver Award five times too much? Or is having a TV commercial celebrating your return to the track too much? Because it seems like the NASCAR community’s obsession with Chase Elliott has now reached a tipping point.
In one of its recent tweets, NASCAR asked the fans if Elliott will go back-to-back at Dover this Sunday. Last year, the Hendrick Motorsports driver took home his first season victory after clinching the checkered flag at the Dover International Speedway. However, after missing multiple races this year, many are skeptical about Elliott repeating the feat.
But there is something even more concerning about Elliott that has been occupying the minds of NASCAR enthusiasts.

Frustrated fans call out NASCAR for hyping Chase Elliott
If one were to look at NASCAR’s social media feeds closely, then it’s true that one can’t scroll on without encountering at least one post related to Chase Elliott. One of the most popular drivers in the history of the sport, the Hendrick Motorsports driver has successfully amassed a huge fan base throughout the span of his career.
Unofficially referred to as the “golden boy of NASCAR,” Elliott made his way to the hearts of the fans when he grabbed the pole for Daytona 500 during his rookie year. Moreover, since then, the Hendrick Motorsports driver has clinched a Cup Series championship (in 2020), won 18 Cup race wins, and registered 139 top-ten finishes.
However, despite the love received by the #9 driver, many believe that the governing body’s attempt at hyping Elliott is getting out of hand. Frustrated by it all, some NASCAR fans called out the governing body’s obsession with Elliott in the Twitter comments section.

Though it might be a stretch to call Elliott mediocre, fans certainly have had enough of NASCAR trying to oversell his return.
