Denny Hamlin is one name that pops into every NASCAR fan’s mind when we hear the term ‘controversy’. The Joe Gibbs Racing veteran is synonymous with debates, stirring and riling up fans as he makes a hot topic out of the ordinary. While the Cup Series action is headed straight to the playoff starter at Darlington, Hamlin has once again ruffled the feathers.

But this time around, he has gotten into the head of former Hendrick Motorsports crew chief. Speaking on Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Dirty Mo Media, Junior’s legendary crew chief hit the JGR veteran with a sly jab as he called out the outspoken driver for his rude rant.

While the 42-year-old is still in the chase for his maiden championship title despite being in the sport for close to 20 years, off the tracks, Hamlin has a newfound passion. Golf is another sport the JGR veteran likes to spend time in. The 23XI Racing co-owner with his business partner, Michael Jordan, is an ardent Golf lover who landed himself a championship recently.

A joint collaboration with fellow Cup Series driver and Golf enthusiast, Ricky Stenhouse Jr has made the headlines in the golfing world, thus creating a unique tournament – The Golf Guys Tour. The lucrative series is indeed a golden opportunity for drivers and racers to try their luck to smash some gold balls with a small twist in the points system.

A few days earlier, Hamlin racked up his 3rd tournament win, emulating his 2017 and 2019 success. While the driver shared his achievement online on his Instagram, Hamlin, being the controversialist, decided to throw in some jabs as he went on a rant, inciting Steve Letarte.

Hamlin simply said, there’s no way the HMS veteran can shoot 85 in a 5 min rant with his close associate. To which Letarte returned fire, indirectly mocking Hamlin’s banter, essentially calling him a “big mouth.” He said, “We had a golf situation, a little golf tourney, and a big mouth who has a podcast on the Dirty Mo Network and it’s not Dale Jr, and it’s not Door Bumper Clear, I’ll let you figure out who’s left, said, there’s no way that I could shoot.”

The 1.3-mile short track at Darlington is also called the” Lady in Black,” simply because of the track’s infamous reputation. The egg-shaped oval has developed a notorious, considering the track’s old surface that shreds away the rubber, thus prompting drivers and teams to pit too often than most venues.

“There’s no place to hide,” said Letarte, who believes there is no room for error given the significance of the playoff starter. “I actually think, I love this race and I love this race for the predictor, and here’s why, there’s no bullsh**t, there’s nothing man, line up, bring your best car, go toe-to-toe and be fast,” said the NBC commentator.

The trio consisting of Letarte, the professor, and the chopper then went on to discuss the tier 1 prospects, favorite to win the race. And according to professor, who read out the names, both JGR veterans – Martin Truex Jr with 2 wins and Denny Hamlin with 4 wins were on top, followed by the 25-year-old HMS sensation William Byron and his teammate, Kyle Larson.
