The drama doesn’t seem to end after what happened at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Monday. Ryan Blaney‘s hard-earned victory grabbed the headlines then, but it has all been about Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin since the end of the race. Elliott’s role in the crash involving the two has certainly displeased many, including one of Joe Gibbs Racing’s key personnel.

Despite the Hendrick Motorsports star denying any intention behind it, NASCAR punished him with a one-race suspension. However, that hasn’t turned out to be satisfactory for the JGR camp as they continue voicing out their frustration.

Clearly, Elliott has a lot at stake having missed out on six races already because of his snowboarding injury earlier this season. It only got worse with NASCAR’s punishment of suspending him for the race at the World Wide Technology Raceway. Safe to say, Elliott’s act on Monday has hampered his chances of qualifying for the playoffs significantly.

Despite pleading his innocence, the 30-year-old was found guilty of intentionally wrecking Denny Hamlin. Naturally, this was bound to happen given how strongly Hamlin criticized it on Twitter and also after the race. In fact, in his post-race comments, he deemed the act as a “bulls**t move.”

It was not just the 3x Daytona 500 winner who was pissed but the incident severely infuriated his crew chief Chris Gabehart. Speaking on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Gabehart expressed his thoughts on the crash recently. He said, “Yeah, you can’t go that far, no doubt about it. I’m all for contact and heck even spinning guys out if you are upset with them and willing to understand there might be consequences for it.”

The 42-year-old adds, “I told you before, I think there should be black flags and central rear for rough driving more consistently, I think that’s fine. Driver wants to be mad enough to be sent to the rear, you know spin a guy because of it. So be it.” However, he pointed out where he thought things got unreasonable.

Gabehart said, “But there is an escalation to that type of behavior that goes too far and I’m a witness of it this week. I’m telling you…he’s hurt, he’s sore, it rung his bell. I’m not going into specifics.”

It is no secret how Denny Hamlin and his outspoken nature have at times divided opinions. While many have appreciated it, some have just disliked it to the core. However, he was expected to get the utmost backing given what happened in North Carolina on Monday.

Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case. In fact, Chris Gabehart’s comments on Chase Elliott have only instigated fans to be more critical of Hamlin and the JGR team. Many of them creatively slammed them on Twitter for not letting the incident pass.

“DH has issues beyond this one. He seriously believes everyone on the track should bow to him in some form or another.”

“Even his crew is crying @CG1751 wow move on he is racing this weekend lol”
