Safety concerns are of paramount importance in NASCAR. Racing at such high speeds implies any small mistake can be fatal. From the mechanics of a car to the intuition of drivers, every small thing plays its part in the safe runtime of a vehicle. However, NASCAR is no stranger to frequent wrecks and crashes.

The norms and guidelines on the topic have evolved over the years. As they continue implementing improvisations, solidifying the car and increasing the driver’s safety have been the authorities’ aims. Kyle Larson has been one of the most competitive drivers in recent times. However, this also makes him vulnerable to the wreckage. During the Cup race in Talladega race, Larson was involved in a severe crash with Ryan Preece. This incident has left the alarms blaring as NASCAR looks to increase driver safety.

In a recent tweet, FOX Sports reporter Bob Pockrass relayed the news about the upcoming car changes. According to the tweet, the changes will manifest in the race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, as it seems that authorities haven’t let the Larson crash go unnoticed. The incident at Talladega was a harsh reminder of the risks that can arise on the tracks.

Luckily both Preece and Larson escaped the crash without injuries. A full-momentum contact on Larson broke the support bars of the Hendrick Motorsports driver’s #5 Chevrolet’s roll cage. Due to this, NASCAR has also added gusset plates to the updated list.

Kyle Busch even commented on the incident, saying it was like “ramming a brick into a stick of butter.” With such threats existing on the track, it can also take a hit on a driver’s confidence. The NASCAR fandom has taken a liking to the decision from the authorities, applauding the org for addressing the issue.

Followers of the sport have always been advocates for driver safety. To see their favorite drivers drop out of races due to injuries from crashes is not something desirable. With an evident increase in aggression on the tracks, durability concerns are more important than ever. After the recent revelation by Pockrass, fans got behind the decision and approved of the long-overdue changes.

A fan added a hilarious Larson angle to his tweet, saying, “Will this be called the Larson gusset?”

Giving insights on the evolution of motorsports safety, one fan tweeted, “Good for them. Glad to see that they’re making strides in safety considering this is an entirely new chassis that’s radically different than any chassis they’ve run for 40 years.” Another fan demanded crash tests before unloading the vehicles.
