Rivalry is one aspect of any sport that is simply irreplaceable. In fact, fans love a strong rivalry and the storyline that comes along with it. And what if that’s between 2 of the sport’s most promising individuals with strong fan bases backing them? That exactly is the talk in NASCAR nation, considering Chase Elliott and his teammate’s Kansas stint.

While the 2020 Cup Series champion has cleared the air on the incident, fans aren’t having any of it as they are busy scrounging for more parallels. Adding fuel to the fire was Elliott’s comments, taking a dig at the fans. Thus prompting them to draw in a Kyle Busch angle to it.

Considering the sport’s draught of rivalries in recent times, one cannot argue with the community looking for an apt storyline. And they got one in Kansas when Hendrick Motorsports drivers, Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott, crossed paths in the pit road.

Obviously frustrated and dejected because of his 2023 season, the 2020 Cup Series champ was seen furious in the post-race interview where he minced his words. For the unversed, both had a brief stint when Larson’s #5 Chevy in an effort to avoid rear-ending the #6 car of Brad Keselowski got into the side of Elliott who was at the time on the right side of the #5 Chevy.

Elliott not knowing the full extent of the incident, retaliated fiercely, bumping the 2021 Cup Series champion moments after. However, this incident caught the attention of the community as they speculated if there was any bad blood between the teammates. While Elliott was frustrated as seen in the post-race interview, the 27-year-old instead took a jab at the fans for stirring up unwanted controversy.

Speaking to Kelly Crandall of SiriusXM NASCAR, Elliott cleared the air, taking the fall for his actions. He said, “There’s a lot that goes on. We obviously ran into each other on pit road and I didn’t have the full picture of what went on, so I was frustrated. That stuff happens, for sure. But at the end of the day, I’ll certainly take the blame for my frustration on that front. The good news is he and I can have a conversation like adults and it’s a non-issue. The bad news is, it’s a non-issue for all of y’all and everybody that wants to talk about it. There’s nothing to talk about.”

He continued, “I know you guys love drama! There is none here, apparently.” But, with the driver poking his fans, relaying the brutal truth without mincing his words, fans turned the whole thing on its head.

They drew in fresh comparisons with Tony Stewart & “Rowdy” Kyle Busch, mentioning how blunt Elliott was with his words.

In fact, one NASCAR fan mentioned how Elliott would make for a perfect villain.

He should. Chase has all the making of a great villain.”

“Bad boy,” and “Rowdy” were some of Richard Childress Racing‘s Kyle Busch’s nicknames. They pretty much summarize the driver’s attitude. When it comes to speaking his mind, Busch was never the type of guy to shy away. On the contrary, he did it with absolute pride.

While the community at the earlier phase of his career, hated Busch for his brash attitude and cocky approach, he is now one of the most loved and admired drivers in the sport. In fact, the 2-time Cup Series champion has brought more fans to the sport with his on-track antics. One other legend of the sport that has such an aura is the 3-time Cup Series champion, Tony Stewart.

With Elliott’s recent comments, fans also adopted the same attitude when they drew comparisons from the above greats.

One fan said,

“Bros gonna morph into Kyle Busch/Tony Stewart at this rate with media members lmao”

While another said this one pushed it to a whole new level,“We’ve seen splashes of Kyle Busch-esque quotes and comments from him before, this might be enough of a push to go full bore.”

Another user chimed in with a quirky analogy, comparing the WCW wrestler during his heel, He’s gonna be like Hollywood Hulk Hogan in WCW”

“I love his response.’the bad news is it’s a non issue which is an issue for yall’ or whatever. I feel like him and KL are over it but he’s heard all the comments and telling us to eff off.”
