The race at Darlington Speedway was one of a kind. The drivers fought tooth and nail to make a good finish. It was William Byron who had the last laugh at Goodyear 400. Thanks to a last-minute wreck with just 6 laps to go, the Hendrick Motorsports prodigy took the lead and held on to it.

Due to his ugly contact with Kyle Larson once again. the Ross Chastain fell back in the grid and failed to score a respectable finish. Since the incident, several drivers have spoken up, with Denny Hamlin being the latest.

The race at Darlington saw multiple wrecks, and Ross Chastain was involved in two major ones. It was between Turns 3 and 4 that Martin Truex Jr and Ross Chastain made contact with each other and Truex Jr was sent reeling on the track while Chastain hit the outside wall.

But it was the second wreck that had a major impact on the driver and became a deciding factor in the race. And Hamlin recently gave his take on the wrecks that happened between Larson and Chastain. In the latest episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast, the JGR driver informed his co-host, Jared Allen, “And now again, I’m not speaking up for him [Ross Chastain]. I’m not, for the record, Kyle did hedge down from the racetrack a little bit.”

Jared Allen added, “Anticipating that Chastain was probably going to run him up the race.”

To which Denny Hamlin agreed and added, “So he needed room. Yes, he wanted to have extra room to the wall. Correct.”

He then exclaimed, “So, either way, I thought that they were going to make significant contact through, as much as throttle as they were carrying into the corner. But man! Yeah, it was Chastain who was probably more ahead of them. He had planned on being and so Kyle got squished into the wall. And then Chastain wrecked himself.”

While speaking about the wreck, Hamlin added in jest, “And so yeah, and then we saw Kyle and just kinda keep the gas down. I wish he should have just kept going.”

Jared Allen wishfully added, “I wish he would just kind of push him all down the backstretch, right in the pit lane.”

The #11 driver too went ahead and mentioned what he really wanted to happen to Chastain, saying, “Just dump him at the pit lane and then turn right and back to the race track. But at the point, he’s trying not to damage his car anymore, more than it probably is.”

Although Hendrick Motorsports might be rejoicing at the overall performance of its drivers, especially Byron, the team boss is surely not happy about the antics of Ross Chastain. Rick Hendrick issued an ultimatum to Ross Chastain and his team in the post-race press conference, saying, “It’s really getting old with these guys. I don’t care if he’s driving a Chevrolet or if he wrecks our cars, I don’t care. I’ve told Chevrolet that. If you wreck us, you’re going to get it back.”
