At the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, there were many occasions when things descended into chaos. Many of the drivers defended their actions, insisting that it was just hard racing. However, Hendrick Motorsports crew chief Greg Ives was not too impressed at all.
Ives was angry about the ‘lack of professionalism’ and voiced his frustrations. The Hendrick Motorsports crew chief said, “I see better racing out of my seven-year-old kid. When we go to these Go-Kart tracks, they touch somebody, they get penalized for incidental contact or avoidable contact. We have professionals out there running it like it’s an S&S Speedway slingshot race. It’s not good for racing, it’s not good for professionalism.”

“Ultimately, NASCAR has to figure out how to make it so… like I said, one of these bodies don’t have hardly any detriment for running the next guy over in front of you. Maybe a bruised nose or a black eye might help.”
Why was the Hendrick Motorsports crew chief so angry?
His rage was mostly because Kevin Harvick knocked his driver, Alex Bowman, out of the race. However, this was just part of a series of altercations between them at Indianapolis.

The first time the two collided, it was Harvick who came away as the loser as he spun off. So when the #4 driver came back to get his revenge, it ultimately resulted in him retiring from the race and Bowman languishing down in 32nd place.
Considering that it is so close to the Playoffs, such antics will only hurt Harvick in the long run. It’s no skin off of Alex Bowman’s nose because he has already qualified. Hence, the pressure is all on Harvick. With Indianapolis done and dusted, it means that it is one less race for him to try to sneak into the Playoffs.
