The NASCAR Cup Series has witnessed some amazing drivers grace the track. However, only a few have managed to dominate the championship as resoundingly as Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt Sr, and Jimmie Johnson have. Their seven-time triumph in the Cup Series has truly put them in a club of their own. Having said that, Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott believes there is no chance of the feat being repeated any time soon.

Currently, among the active drivers, only Kyle Busch and Joey Logano have won the championship more than once. With time, it only seems to get more tricky for a driver to have more dominance. In fact, winning the title even once seems to have become a daunting task. Elliott explains why as he echoes what Denny Hamlin said recently.

It was delightful to hear Chase Elliott back in the competition as he announced his return at Martinsville. Having said that, it is going to be challenging for him to qualify for the playoff this season with 18 races left. The 27-year-old would be having a far-fetched dream of repeating the feat Kyle Busch did in 2015 to record his career’s second title win.

However, given his recent statements, he seems to have declared that it is going to be a difficult task for him to win his next championship. Speaking on the Pat McAfee show recently, Elliott was asked if any of the current drivers can replicate the dominance shown by Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt, and Richard Petty in the Cup Series.

To this, the Georgia-born driver said, “I honestly think the answer to that is no. I think that’s because every time we have a new rule change and we have this new car come out that you know has tried to level the playing field. The more you level the playing field, the harder it’s going to be different.”

He continued, “And the harder it is for us to be different, the harder it’s going to be to pass up through the field and do all those things and really dominate. And especially in a short period of time just because the more the cars are so close, there are so many good drivers that it’s just gonna continue to be more and more challenging to do.

The Next Gen cars have certainly played a key role in that. In fact, the very purpose of introducing them is to give all drivers a level-playing ground. However, Elliott did mention that it is likely that drivers may win twice or thrice in one or two months. But achieving the seven-championship feat seems very hard and distant.

In addition, the HMS star also explained why Petty, Earnhardt, and Johnson were successful in their respective time. He said, “And the reason those guys were such icons is because they were different over the years. They were very good race car drivers, and they also had very good equipment to drive.”

“And those two things combined at the right time led to their dominance. I think right now, the cars are becoming so much the same that it’s becoming very difficult for drivers to be different.” While Elliott has a point there, he certainly speaks on similar lines as his once rival Denny Hamlin did.

It was then he explained how parity was creating more problems on his podcast, “Actions Detrimental.” Hamlin said, “Let me go back to parity…here’s the problem: what we saw on Sunday is what is wrong with parity. Parity means that most of all the cars are very similar. They’re same and the team in 25th place speed has the chance to win just as much as the 1st place guy.”
