With the seasons changing, NASCAR braces for the summer heat as the Cup Series heads into the second leg of its 36-race schedule. And all eyes are on the upcoming race at Nashville Superspeedway. While the community eagerly awaits the Nashville weekend, which is always entertaining, the 2020 Cup Series champion Chase Elliott is looking to put his name in the hat following a dry run owing to his unfortunate accident earlier in March.
The Hendrick Motorsports ace is currently at the 27th spot in the standings with zero wins this season. Though the #9 driver has showcased impressive performances after his 6-race interval, 2023 hasn’t been what the driver anticipated it to be. NASCAR expert Kyle Petty voiced strong emotions about the driver and mentioned Elliott’s shaky affair with the Next Gen cars, revealing the Golden Boy’s uncertain future.
However, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, you just cannot count out Elliott as he looks to emulate last year’s success at the Superspeedway, ready to uphold Bill Elliott‘s legacy and return to the winner’s circle.

A leap in the dark—Will Chase Elliott be able to repeat his success last year?
The month of March was certainly not the best for HMS and Chase Elliott fans. Soon the ratings plummeted as the driver missed out on 6 races owing to his fractured leg. But, things did not stay sketchy as the #9 driver proved his mettle by finishing 10th at Martinville, his first race after his vicious injury.
While his return became the talk of the town as the HMS ace delivered the hype with a decent top-10 performance on his return, a win still eluded him. And now with just 10 races to the playoffs, the low-ranking Elliott desperately needs a win to stay afloat. And his suspension after an ugly tussle with veteran Denny Hamlin has dropped him even farther down. Though the scene is dark and bleak, we just can’t write off the road course expert.
However, with the Cup Series race headed to Nashville this week and back-to-back road courses coming up, Chase Elliott definitely has a golden opportunity at hand to redeem himself as the road course specialist. He must be geared up to emulate his 2022 Superspeedway run at the Nashville track despite Kyle Petty’s sharp comments about the driver’s tricky affair with the Next Gen cars.

Kyle Petty fires away bold comments, citing Elliott’s apparent detriment
Senior commentator and analyst, Kyle Petty has always been the type of guy to shoot his thoughts straight. While this has made him a popular name in the NASCAR circle, the veteran recently came out with strong words for Chase Elliott on the NASCAR on NBC podcast.
Elliott who was setting the track on fire in the previous years, before the arrival of Next-Gen cars, with stellar finishes, especially at road courses made him a renowned road course specialist while this season the driver appears to be on his back foot. Reflecting on this aspect, speaking to his co-host, Petty said, “You put Chase Elliott in a car and he just got it done. I don’t know what they did or how he drove or what his secret was, but he just got it done.”
He added to his point, “f you go back to last year and just take all of his road course finishes, he basically averaged a 9th- or 10th-place finish. If you go to the season before that, he averaged a 1st or 2nd place finish probably,” Summing up his thoughts, Petty stated the obvious fact, “It seems that he’s still good but I don’t know if we’d say he’s the best road course racer in the Cup Series now like we would have said a few years ago.”
