Home/NASCAR

It’s been a bittersweet season for Hendrick Motorsports so far. Sure, they have been arguably the best NASCAR team in the garage so far if the results aren’t concerned. But there have been certain points in this season that they certainly would want to forget.

For instance, HMS has been penalized twice by NASCAR, first for almost half a million dollars and points on all four of their teams which later just got reduced to a monetary fine; and then later for $150,000 again for the #24 and the #48 team.

That’s a lot of money in fines, even for billionaire Rick Hendrick. But that hasn’t stopped him from spending more from his wallet.

But there’s a twist.

Rick Hendrick spends a fortune on Corvette for a good cause

During the recent Barret Jackson’s Palm Beach Auction, a Corvette E-Ray went for an extraordinary price. What made this sale impressive, along with the seven-digit number it went for, is the actual MSRP of the car.

The E-Ray would typically cost around $115,000. But since this was the first ever retail example of this Corvette, it went for $1.1 million, as per carscoops.com.

The buyer was Rick Hendrick. But the thing that stands out even more than the car and the amount it went for is the fact that all the proceeds from this auction will go to DonorsChoose “to help provide resources to teachers working in public schools in low-income communities.”

After Hendrick’s original penalty was reduced which was followed by another penalty from NASCAR, Bubba Wallace‘s spotter Freddie Kraft had an interesting point to make. He observed how usually, the governing body would select “random cars” to take to the R&D center, something “that’s not the case” this year.

“You see is this now, NASCAR going, ‘Listen, we took a hundred points, you got them back. We’re gonna nitpick you to death until we get those 100 points back,'” he said, adding, “This could be a long season.”

With that said, do you think NASCAR will actually pose more problems for HMS, or could Rick Hendrick’s team walk their way to the two championships comfortably ahead of the competition?
