NASCAR’s most popular driver Chase Elliott is trying his luck and stretching his racing horizons in the ongoing Chili Bowl Nationals. Elliott, who has admitted to pushing himself out of his comfort zone, is relatively new to the dirt racing scene.
And it is his amateur status in racing the midgets that led to a scary crash in Saturday night’s race at Tulsa.
During the F-Main event, the 2020 NASCAR champion was racing hard. And as he was trying to pass the car in front, his left front clipped the right rear of the car in front, which sent his midget flying into the fence as it tumbled and flipped, ending up upside down.

This was very similar to Santino Ferrucci’s incident yesterday, who also ended up crashing in the same fashion as Elliott. Ferrucci’s crash ruled him out from the rest of the CBN as he suffered a concussion.

How did Chase Elliott react after his crash?
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Elliott said, just as he was being attended to by the various professionals who were trying to sort out his wrecked car and check up on him.

The Hendrick driver then went on to describe his incident and expressed his remorse for wrecking his teammate’s car. “Jumped a wheel and went for a ride, but feeling good. Hate to tear up Kyle’s (Larson) car,” Elliott said.
As for his assessment of how his second showing at Chili Bowl Nationals went, he said, “I actually got to where I felt pretty decent on Monday, made a couple of mistakes that really cost me. But I feel like we come a long way, didn’t really have results to show for it.”
But despite this wreck and another disappointing Chili Bowl campaign, Chase Elliott said something which further goes to show his character and competitive spirit – “We’ll try again and hopefully come back next year and we’ll be better.”
