The race at the tri-oval track in Talladega never fails to surprise the NASCAR audience. With a mind-boggling speed of 180mph running on its progressive banking, the track has always been a wild card race in the playoff schedule, and Sunday’s race was no exception. With the constant fight for the lead and uncertainties hovering over the fates of the drivers, NASCAR was assuredly left on the edge of their seats as the high-octane drama unfolded on the track.

However, it was Team Penske who was able to have the final laugh of the day, as they snapped their winless streak and glided into the Round of 8 with ease. While Ford and Team Penske finally released a sigh of relief after RFK Racing came to a halt, it was an absolute heartbreak for Stewart-Haas Racing, especially their retiring driver Kevin Harvick, as he missed his season’s first victory by whiskers. Accordingly, the driver was seen lamenting in the post-race interview.

After an emphatic win and clinching the Crown Jewel race of Coca-Cola 600, Team Penske seemed to have slipped into a slumber, and the escape from it seemed nearly impossible. Rather, it was their former teammate’s team, RFK Racing, that seemed to rise in the championship contention picture after its spectacular finish. Moreover, the final blow that destroyed the fragile hopes of the team was the elimination of their 2x Cup Series champion Joey Logano after the night race at Bristol.

With the pressure of elimination intensifying on the shoulders of the playoff driver for the team, Ryan Blaney was finally able to redeem himself on the track of Talladega on Sunday, marking his third victory on the track. However, it was just a fraction of a second before Blaney was able to outmaneuver Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick and snatch his victory from the 2014 Cup Series champion’s clutches.

As a result, the outgoing driver seemed to have lost the opportunity to earn a victory on the superspeedway for one last time before bowing out of the world of professional racing. The driver finished second in the race. In his post-race interview with NBC, the No. 4 Ford driver stated, “I just tried to block the lanes, and it was kind and I was late blocking the 12 there, the 8 [Kyle Busch] got to the outside. But it worked okay because the 24 [William Buron] was a great pusher and then was shoveled again and I had Riley [Herbst] me.”

“I thought I was in a good spot. headed down the back straightaway with everything, that was happening […] Great day, a great way to end Talladega. Always wanted to win, it is what it is. Talladega has been so up and down through the years. We have some great moments and some bad moments. Last superspeedway racing and went out with everything ruined.”

In the post-race interview, the driver of the No. 12 Ford Mustang expressed, “It was a pretty wild restart, let alone the last couple of laps, losing momentum and getting it back, just getting clear to the bottom to get to the front row and drag race it out with Kevin. To win here three times at Talladega is super cool.”

Even the team boss Roger Penske mentioned, “For Harvick, who it was his last race here, working like he did with Ryan, it was amazing to see that. The Hendrick freight train was coming and we all stayed together, that was the call that Ford had earlier in the day when we talked. It was just perfect execution.”
