History was made in the NASCAR Truck Series on Friday night at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway as Rajah Caruth took the checkered flag for the first time in the competition. After being reportedly given a dressing down after the Atlanta race by mentor Bubba Wallace, the 21-year-old racer needed this victory as he cements himself as one of the best prospects in stock car racing today.

It’s surreal, the Spire Motorsports driver said as he earned his first career pole and first career win in the same event. The youngster beat Cup Series drivers like Kyle Busch and Christopher Bell and Truck Series stalwarts like Tyler Ankrum, Christian Eckes, and Corey Heim. His mentor will be a happy man, as this has been one of the moments they’ve both been working toward.

Yes! It Is Great for NASCAR

No, It Was a Disaster This Time

Rajah Caruth drove like a man possessed at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, running door to door against Rowdy at some points during the race and coming out on top. It seems like Bubba Wallace’s words after the end of last week’s Truck race in Atlanta had a motivational effect on the 21-year-old, who used them as fuel and became the first black driver to win a Truck race since his mentor in 2017. Fans believe that the apprentice has a career trajectory that mirrors that of the mentor, and the Cup Series star was a huge success when he raced Truck full-time.

After he got out of the car, there was only jubilation in Caruth’s tone and body language as he celebrated wholeheartedly with his father. In the post-race interview, the 21-year-old thanked the team behind him and his family for helping him get to where he is right now. Given his performance today, there’s going to be a lot of confidence in the Spire Motorsports man who has punched his playoff ticket early on, something his mentor has yet to do in the Cup Series.

“Yeah, man, it’s, uh, surreal. I thank you so much to Hendrickcars.com and Mr. H for for putting me in this thing all year. Along with the men and women at Fire Man they’ve they’ve had a lot of work this winter and uh the decal shops been working very hard too, so I’m glad to get the win for team Chevy. I can’t thank my family enough; you know, so many people have helped me get to this point, and, um, I just can’t believe it,” Rajah Caruth said.

With the victory, the Spire Motorsports star became only the third black driver in NASCAR history to win a race in any of their competitions, joining his mentor Bubba Wallace and Hall of Famer Wendell Scott. It was a proud moment for the 23XI Racing driver, who could not contain his excitement as his prodigy got onto Victory Lane.

Rajah Caruth displayed maturity beyond his years during the race as he spoke about his strategy in the post-race interview. “I just stayed cool um you know we lost track position at little portions of the race and um we just stayed in the game. And it was just one step one one punch one round at a time, and my guys got me, had me a great stop, and we just executed. So, there’s more to come for sure,” he said.
