The Richard Childress Racing driver is surely having the season of his life in the 2023 Cup Series season. With 3 victories to his name, Busch is more confident than ever when it comes to showcasing his racing caliber on the tracks of NASCAR. Moreover, his competitive streak is not only restricted to the elite series of NASCAR but also to various other minor series, including the SRX Series.
With that being said, Kyle Busch was surely not settling for anything less apart from the top spot in his rookie season of the SRX Racing series. The driver had put his best foot forward and secured a victory at Pulaski after he outlasted his fellow Cup Series driver, Brad Keselowski, and also the pole-sitter and co-owner of the series, Tony Stewart.
Apart from the victory, the fact of running past beside the Hall of Famer Tony Stewart with 30 laps to go, surely filled Busch with a sense of achievement which he had shared during the pre-race interview at Berlin Raceway. Citing Bobby Labonte and Tony Stewart, and other IndyCar drivers, he talked about how the opportunity to compete with respected drivers meant a lot to him. He also expressed his disappointment about not being able to race against drag racer Ron Capps.
He said, “to have the different backgrounds of all these drivers and the camaraderie with everything else of where they come from and how they race and trying to beat them and doing a good job of being able to beat them.” Busch also praised Tony Stewart. “Tony is a great racer himself. He has won the IndyCar championship, Stock Car championship, and now is chasing an NHRA Championship. The guy is well-versed and knows what he is doing and it’s a lot of fun to reignite some of that to race with him”, he added.
Busch also took a moment to reflect on his victory against Stewart: “I am glad I was able to beat him the first time out, I am sure he wasn’t all that thrilled about it, but he does enjoy his SRX and everything else with the series and he is putting on a good show.”
