As the race in Chicago neared the end with less than 14 laps to go, RCR driver Austin Dillon found himself in a promising position, running ahead of top contenders Chase Elliott and Kyle Busch, who were at the third and fourth positions. However, on Lap 61, disaster struck Dillon as he lost control of his car and slammed into the inside tire wall, causing severe damage to his vehicle and effectively ending his hopes of completing the race.
