In a highly competitive and aggressive motorsport like NASCAR, it is often that one driver wrecks another other. Sometimes they do this as a way to take revenge, and sometimes it’s just to gain a better position. The latter was applicable for Denny Hamlin last weekend at Richmond Raceway.
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver wrecked NASCAR driver JJ Yeley—a veteran of 17 years. Following the events of the race, Yeley called Hamlin “silly” because of his actions. However, despite Hamlin’s apology for the incident, Yeley lashed out at the JGR driver once again. This time around, Yeley expressed his disappointment with Hamlin for venting “his frustrations out” on the veteran driver.

JJ Yeley remains disappointed with Denny Hamlin
During an interview with SiriusXM-NASCAR, JJ Yeley said, “I was very disappointed obviously we were barely 40 laps in the race… If he’s mad, he’s mad. To take his frustrations out on me is disappointing, especially from a veteran who’s been preaching [respect] for the last few weeks.”
Furthermore, Yeley acknowledged that Hamlin is an exceptional racecar driver. However, he finds it disheartening that Hamlin deliberately ran him over. Yeley mentioned that he initially struggled in the race due to a loose start but managed to make some adjustments. He was actually quite pleased with the car’s performance at that point. However, he was too wide, which prevented him from making any progress.
He concluded by stating, “So the fact that he ran me over, sucks.
You know, I guess karma got him with his pit crew and some other issues […] I wouldn’t have expected it. But sometimes guys just do what they need and I was the victim of that.”

Yeley believes that Hamlin does not care about ruining his race
The incident at Richmond has surely soured Yeley. Earlier Yeley had apparently told the media that he doubted Hamlin will apologize. Moreover, he also believed that Hamlin did not even care about ruining his race in the first place. Yeley did have the chance to exact his revenge on the JGR driver later on, but he chose not to.
Later on, Denny Hamlin apologized to Yaley on his podcast, but either Yaley is not aware of that or he is not yet ready to move on.

It is obvious that Yeley is definitely not pleased with Hamlin for wrecking him early on in the race. But we hope that these two men can talk things out between themselves.
