With just three seasonal races till the playoffs and one of them right around this weekend, the thrill in the minds of every NASCAR fan is just unfathomable. After the last two dominant performances by Chris Buescher of RFK Racing, people are singing praises for the 30-year-old Texas native and his boss, Brad Keselowski, for guiding the team to where they are right now. However, the race in Michigan witnessed the superb speed and indomitable spirit of another racer, who could be a major threat to every NASCAR driver on the grid.

This driver does not race dirty at all and chooses to win by fair means. He has also received the admiration of thousands of NASCAR enthusiasts for something that he has done recently while racing Chris Buescher at the Michigan international Speedway.

Last Monday, Martin Truex Jr. just fell short of a win at the D-shaped racetrack. After losing spots post the final pit stop, Truex steered forth and caught the number 17 Ford, but the latter managed to block Truex with his air. As a result, Truex had no choice but to stay in the dirty air waiting for a chance along the turns to take Buescher. But alas, with just 12 laps to go, the #19 Toyota shifted to the inside of the #17 Ford and was not able to outdo him.

However, the 43-year-old driver displayed his stronghold on the track by winning both stages 1 and 2. The latter was more impressive as during stage 2, he rose from p14, straight to the winning position. Last year, Truex was winless, but this year, he has already pocketed 3 wins, and now with a solid spot in the playoffs; he has probably locked his target at the championship trophy.

In a recent episode of Stacking Pennies, Corey LaJoie and his co-host Ryan Flores discussed how dominant this Texas-borne speedster is in the tracks of NASCAR. The driver of the number 7 Chevrolet Camaro exclaimed, “He (Truex) is strong everywhere they go.”

Which, Flores agreed and said that although Buescher aero-blocked Truex perfectly, the speed that the #19 car has is somewhat annoying for the other drivers.

“It sucks when you have a car as dominant as the 19 does, it’s like, okay just execute and you’re gonna go win this thing. And they come out behind the 17, they’re wheeling them down,” he admitted.

During the ultimate laps, Martin Truex had the opportunity to nudge Chris Buescher. That might have resulted in a very different outcome of the race. Maybe Truex would have won, or perhaps he would have taken Buescher down with himself, letting Denny Hamlin take the win. But there is just one thing that Denny Hamlin’s teammate, particularly abhors.

“I was trying to do all I could… without making contact,” a statement that set Truex apart

During a post-race interview with Frontstretch, Martin Truex Jr. opened up about how he got fell prey to the dirty air behind Buescher’s Ford Mustang and, despite trying his best to take him on, he failed. He admitted that he could have easily rammed Buescher in an attempt to get him out of the way, but it looked like the former preferred clean racing above all.

Truex Jr. said, “Before we hit the green flag cycle, we weren’t close enough to take advantage of it. We gained on him there, but we needed to come out ahead of him and the race would have been over, but…”

“The car was amazing, great job by my team and we passed a lot of cars…stage 2 was a lot of fun to drive through the field to get that win late…it’s just you get to the leader ad you can’t do anything anymore, he’s (Buescher) got the clean air and a huge advantage,” he added.

He continued, ” I feel like we’ve got a good respectful relationship on the racetrack and I wasn’t gonna do anything to wreck him…”. Surely, a second-place finish is more desirable to Truex than a dirty win.
