Apart from being a race car driver and having a huge social media presence, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has worked as a broadcaster in a number of races. Last weekend at Kansas, Junior was on track duty in the Xfinity Race and he had a moment where he froze for a while on live camera. It was obviously not a great moment for the former Cup Series driver and he hoped that his colleague, who had the same duty the next weekend, suffered a similar fate.

Right before the green flag was scheduled to fall on the Xfinity race at Kansas, Junior was on track speaking about the race and how it was crucial for the playoffs. Toward the end of his segment, the 48-year-old was supposed to talk about Parker Kligerman and Riley Herbst. As he was about to speak about the latter, Junior forgot the car number and just froze for a bit before taking a look at the number and continuing with his presentation.

It was an embarrassing moment for the former Cup Series driver who was live on national television. On the recent episode of the Dale Jr Download podcast, he did not shy away from his mistake but admitted to wishing that his broadcast colleague and close friend Jeff Burton went through something similar so that he wasn’t the only one who looked bad.

“I’m thinking, man I just hope Jeff don’t do it too damn good. Cause I did it ***. And I’m like you know, I kinda want him to have an okay run at this,” he admitted to his co-host, Mike Davis.

Surprisingly, Burton indeed had a difficult moment while speaking about the Kansas track ahead of the Cup Series race. The veteran broadcaster was speaking about how to navigate through turn 1 with as much speed as possible. Standing on the banking of the turn, it seemed like he was out of breath and it took him a little while before he could regain his composure again.

Junior is not someone who would wish ill luck on his friends and colleagues, but he is way too competitive to see someone outperform him by a lot. Watching his friend had that moment on live television, he said:

“He got winded. So he’s up on the banking, right? Standing up there, walking a little bit and talking, he ends up getting winded. And starts like…he just gets winded. And so he is sort of tailing off.

“He’s not breathing. I guess he gets nervous like I do and he just don’t breathe. He’s just talking,” the 48-year-old added.

Junior might not be the best at media duties, as he did not start his career as a broadcaster. He was a racer thus, and what he is the best at is racing. Luckily, fans will get to see Dale Earnhardt Jr., the racer, in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Bristol this coming weekend.

A lot of people are excited about Junior’s return to a competitive NASCAR race, but Dale Junior himself is not one of those people. If anything, the 48-year-old admitted that he is feeling nervous about getting into the race car.

“I don’t know…I’m nervous. I’m trying to not get nervous about this, I always sort of, my wife will tell you a month before I’m going to drive a race car I get really nervous and get hard to be around,” the former Cup Series driver said.

It’s not like Junior has been completely out of touch with motor racing. He has taken part in a number of local racing events over the years, but he has been out of touch when it comes to racing in NASCAR. It will be intense and drivers will fight tooth and nail for track position. How do you think Dale Earnhardt Jr. will fare at Bristol? Let us know your thoughts.
