Back in 2020, NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace appeared in an interview for Jimmy Kimmel Live. Over there, he talked to comedian Anthony Anderson on a number of topics. He also talked about a tweet from then-president Donald Trump. This was a reference to the controversy involving an alleged noose at the Talladega Superspeedway. President Trump called out Wallace for the ‘hoax’ and demanded that the driver apologize.

Wallace said, “When I first read it, I was like, ‘Man! There is so much more things that are going on in the world that I feel like he should be worried about. It’s hard to get people to understand, especially when the facts are delivered on the table. They’ve been there for two weeks now, so to be late to the party is one thing. Then to be wrong on the factual information is another. But all in all, he did get one thing right in his tweet though.”

“It’s the NASCAR drivers and officials who continue to stand behind me through it all, he got that right.”

What lies ahead for Bubba Wallace in the NASCAR Cup Series?

Two years on, the driver is racing for the Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan-owned 23XI Racing. Since then, he has racked up one win at the Talladega Superspeedway last year. In addition to that, he has also delivered some excellent results for the two-year-old team. In fact, teammate Kurt Busch is the outfit’s most recent winner, at the Kansas Speedway.

Admittedly, this does put a little bit of pressure on Wallace to join his teammate in the winners club. It would also be a great way to hit back at haters who felt that he got lucky last year at Talladega. To this day, Bubba Wallace is one of the most polarising figures in the sport, with a fair number of fans and haters at the same time.
