The sudden announcement of Corey LaJoie’s exit from Spire Motorsports after the 2024 season has left the #7 seat vacant for the 2025 season. The NASCAR community was quick to speculate about the next driver to fill the #7 seat. Some suggested it could be two-time world champion Kyle Busch, while others wondered if it might be someone else.

What are the odds of Xfinity Series racer Anthony Alfredo getting a chance with Spire Motorsports? Fans were quick to dismiss the idea, with some saying, “He’s not ready.”

In a recent statement to the Athletic, Corey LaJoie talked about his exit and said a thank you note to everyone on his team. The statement read, “I won’t be driving the 7 car next year,” LaJoie said. “I take a lot of satisfaction from having an integral part of building Spire into a respectable team on the grid, but unfortunately the future won’t involve me. We will finish the remainder of 2024 strong, continuing to deliver for my partners, my guys who work hard to build good cars, family, fans & friends who have supported me since day one in the Cup Series.” The statement went on to show that his 2025 plans are uncertain; it read “This chapter ends after Phoenix and I’m excited to see what the Lord has in store for my family next.”

Lajoie’s 2024 hasn’t been his best. He currently stands in the 28th position in the point table. He’s been struggling with a winless season and only has one top-10 and top-5 finish. However, the bigger question is that with Corey gone, who will fill the vacancy in the Cup series? The guys at Spire Motorsports haven’t revealed anything yet, which has led to fans coming up with their own picks. Some speculated it could be Kyle Busch. However, Bob Pockrass was quick to shut down this discussion. He said on X, “No. I don’t expect Kyle Busch to be in a Cup car at Spire next year from the people I talked to today, Kyle Busch has a contract with RCR for next year and while never say never, that is where I see him next year.”

Now the speculations have started around Xfinity driver Anthony Alfredo. This year Alfredo drove in the Daytona 500 for Beard Motorsports, where he finished in the 27th position. It was his second Daytona 500 start and his first in three years. Later this year he got a P6 on the Talladega Superspeedway. Similar to Lajoie, Alfredo’s 2025 plans are also uncertain as he does not have a seat for 2025. However, Alfredo is hopeful of getting more Cup Series chances soon. In a recent interview with Frontstretch he talked about his Daytona run; he said, “The Next Gen car is so different, so more laps in it are good, especially when you perform well. Hopefully, it turns some heads and gets some Cup Series teams looking at me.”

Yet fans think differently; they have bashed his chances of running a Spire Motorsports car.

The Xfinity Series driver is struggling in the 2024 season. He currently stands in the 15th position. His winless season is continuing with five top-10 finishes and only one top-5 finish. Therefore, fans don’t think Alfredo is being eyed by Spire Motorsports as the team must be on the lookout for a race winner. On this note, one fan wrote, “I do not think so.” Another fan expressed the same emotion in a harsher tone; “Hard no.”

Anthony runs for a small budget team called Our Motorsport. At the beginning of the Xfinity Series 2024, Anthony had a good run. He followed up his P3 finish at Talladega with a P9 at Dover, which was good enough to earn him the $100,000 Dash 4 Cash bonus for his team. While he’s got the money, he has no ride so far for 2025. Fans blame his poor performance that came after a good start to the season. One fan wrote, “No. The only thing he has going for him is funding, but his resume is the opposite of what Spire is clearly trying to build.”

Witnessing his performance in the Xfinity Series, fans don’t want him to come and do the same in the Cup. One fan wrote, “I hope not.” While Alfredo hopes to have more races in the Cup series, some fans suggest that he should get a strong footing in Xfinity before moving to the Cup. One wrote, “I think Alfredo should be setting his sights on finding a better Xfinity ride. Not moving to Cup.
