Ben Rhodes might not have been a part of the most conventional press conference, but it sure was an entertaining one. The 2023 Truck Series champion was in high spirits after winning the championship, but it made for a rather embarrassing press conference, at least in his own eyes. The 26-year-old recently expressed his regret at the situation and how Jeff Gordon was a part of it.

The ThorSport Racing driver became a 2-time Truck Series champion when he won the title. There was a lot of luck involved in the championship race, which helped him get his hands on the title, but Ben Rhodes had a commendable year, winning in North Carolina and earning 7 top-five finishes.

The Ford star is currently in Nashville for the NASCAR Awards, and that is where he expressed his regret about the infamous press conference. Rhodes expressed how he had tried to keep his composure with SiriusXM presenter Claire B Lang but when he got in front of the cameras, all hell broke loose.

From talking about how “lit” he got to burping into the microphone, it was an embarrassing yet hilarious few minutes. As far as the Truck Series champion is concerned, he won’t be doing something like that anytime soon.

“I told a lot of people afterward that ‘I was not going to be doing that again’. The worst part of it all was I was feeling pretty spiffy about the press conference. I was trying to hold it all together with Claire B Lang in the next room over prior to it. It’s something about Claire, she’s like my school teacher, she just makes me kind of behave. And then I get out there and they hand me a microphone and I just go stupid,” Rhodes said.

One of the people responsible for putting the 2023 Truck Series champion in that position was none other than 4-time Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon.

The ThorSport Racing driver revealed that Gordon had offered him a beverage that had a lot of bourbon in it. Rhodes said that he downed the cocktail pretty quickly and before he got to the press room, things were already a bit woozy from his perspective.

“Jeff was there, Jeff Gordon. They hand me this souvenir cup full of, it was an old-fashioned but I tell you what, it’s mostly bourbon and I down that puppy way too fast. And then the golf cart ride back got real dizzy and before I knew it, we’re doing FOX Sports 1 interviews and I’m just trying to hold on,” the 26-year-old revealed.
