Hendrick Motorsports prodigy William Byron indeed lived up to the name of the Go Bowling at Watkins Glen International on Sunday. In the penultimate race of the regular season, Jeff Gordan’s protege bowled over the rest of the drivers as he raced in a league of his own and claimed his 5th dominant victory of the season. A sight to behold.
While Hendrick Motorsports anguished over the fate of two of its star drivers and the possibility of bagging a post-season seat, rising star William Byron made sure that the attention was pinned on him as he gracefully navigated his way on the serpentine track. Byron seized his first road course win in his Cup Series career. On account of this, Hall of Famer Dale Jarrett evidently seemed to place the driver on a higher pedestal in the HMS stable as he engaged in a candid conversation with Nate Ryan.

The winningest team in NASCAR, Hendrick Motorsports, in the 2023 Cup Series season has transplanted itself in ambivalent circumstances. While two of its drivers are ready to set sail in the post-season, the other two are limping way behind on the scoreboard as their playoff hopes hang by a thread. Moreover, with just one last race on the calendar, it is apparent that only one can make it to the postseason, a far-fetched possibility.
Nevertheless, with hopes dwindling for Chase Elliott, NASCAR veterans seem to shift their gaze to Elliott’s emergent teammate, William Byron. The young prodigy in the 2023 season has been unstoppable, given his impeccable skills. Adding five victories in a single season on a plethora of track types, the No. 24 Chevrolet driver has reinforced that there is not a single track that he can’t conquer.
Owing to the fact, former Cup Series champion Dale Jarrett, who has never won on a road course revealed to NBC’s Nate Ryan, “Huge win for William Byron and his team and to think that this young man, I feel like, that he should be over than 25, but he came in at such a young age. I guess at 19 he was in a Cup car and to see him round into to the complete driver that he is now, it says a lot.”
“That’s probably the one thing that I wish I had been able to do win on a road course because I think that it completes your resume as a driver. That was just phenomenal what William Byron was able to do and again as you pointed out, he put the numbers up on different types of track and these numbers are only going to head up.”

There is no denying the fact that Hendrick Motorsports has been the haven for NASCAR champions and harbored future Hall of Famers. Boasting more than 200 wins in the elite series of NASCAR, the winningest team has set the tone for churning out victories from the most hostile of tracks and in the most unexpected fashion.
This notion was apparent from Jarrett’s words in his conversation with the NBC host. Continuing on the same lines, he asserted, “I don’t know if we are looking at Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson type of numbers from Hendrick Motorsports but he is certainly going to be someone that if he can stay healthy and continue at this, there is no reason that he can’t win five to seven races each and every year.”
“You think about that in a career, you are looking at 50 wins, and by the time he is well over that, and he certainly has in, my mind established himself as the favorite, again because of he is able to win at pretty much any type of track that is gonna come up at the playoffs. Again just a great job to have that in your pocket that the competitors know now that there isn’t anywhere that you go that can’t put William Byron’s name in the mix that he can possibly win the race,” Jarret concluded.
