The future is uncertain for ThorSport Racing icon Hailie Deegan. After a bleak ride on the Ford F-150 truck throughout almost the entire season, the 22-year-old Californian now looks forward to changing the series that she drives in. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series might have given the experience she needed, but last year she finished 13th in an Xfinity race at Las Vegas. And this year, perhaps she intends to advance more down that road.

However, sponsorships stand in her way of driving an Xfinity car. While the Blue Oval company awaits her verdict on whether she wants to move to Xfinity or not, another 21-year-old prodigy is steadily making his name up the banners of the Xfinity Series. Hailie Deegan is probably not very happy, but there isn’t a lot that she can do.

Until now, Layne Rigs has driven part-time in the Truck Series, besides being the current driver for Kevin Harvick Incorporated in the CARS Tour ranks. To his credit, Riggs has also been the 2022 NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series National Champion. So it is safe to say that even with the little chances the racing world has given him, he has proved his worth.

That is exactly what landed him with probably the best opportunity in his career so far with Matt Kaulig’s team. His longtime partner Infinity Communications will fund his multi-race deal with Kaulig Racing at three different tracks; Texas, Las Vegas, and Martinsville.

The son of the former National Series racer Scott Riggs, Layne, is currently a short-track specialist. Nevertheless, he is slowly learning the tricks of running on NASCAR’s ovals and Superspeedways. Riggs is just like Dale Earnhardt Jr. when it comes to online simulation racing. Being a huge fan of iRacing, Layne Riggs feels like he can capitalize on the diverse variety of track combinations that iRacing provides.

While drivers like Daniel Dye and most recently, Riggs are all set for their Xfinity rides, Hailie Deegan perhaps feels left behind. Having said that, it would surprise you to know that Layne craves something that Hailie Deegan already has.

Last month, Riggs ran one of the best races in his career to finish 3rd at Indianapolis Raceway Park, driving the #7 truck for Spire Motorsports. Hence, it is clear why Ross Chastain’s former boss, Matt Kaulig, and President of Kaulig Racing, Chris Rice, have no issues giving this young, talented driver a chance to drive for their Xfinity team. However, Riggs wants more.

The half-mile magician wants to land a full-time contract in the NASCAR Truck Series. Moments after the race at IRP, he told Frontstretch, “I think that I have a lot of experience on short tracks, I am learning on the mile and a half. I only got one mile-and-a-half race under my belt. I think I have a lot of potential…proven every time I deserve to be here.”

All he needs is some experience and a good team. Riggs expressed how ready he is to put in the effort and get better at his job. If things go well, Riggs said, “I think we can win a Championship easily.”
