Hailie Deegan is currently gearing up for her IndyCar debut in 2025. Though it has to be said that she is running in the Indy NXT Series, driving for HMD Motorsports. The season is just around the corner, with the opening race kicking off on March 2nd. Deegan is expected to be one of six rookie drivers on the grid, and one of two female drivers.
In the buildup to the new season, Deegan has been busy testing her new machine. Last year, she was at the Barber Motorsports Park with HMD Motorsports. This time around, the 23-year-old has been getting some more track time to build up her experience. Frankly, it’s not a bad idea, and Deegan has a lot to prove, ahead of her debut.
After break-out campaigns in the K&N Pro Series and ARCA Series, Deegan made the step up to the Truck Series. Speaking of which, she did struggle a little bit, before turning in a couple of Top 10 finishes. Her 2023 campaign was apparently enough to earn a promotion to the Xfinity Series with AM Racing. Unfortunately, that was where her luck ran out, and she was let go in the middle of the season.

After failing to crack Xfinity, Hailie Deegan switched to open-wheel
Fortunately, she didn’t stay in the wilderness for long, and soon IndyCar came knocking. HMD evidently felt that she could be their new rising star on the road to glory. As such, she was recruited, alongside seven other drivers, including the other female driver, Sophia Florsch. Apart from the two females, the other recruits are Nolan Allaer, Josh Pierson, Tommy Smith, Caio Collet, and Bryce Aron.
Who knows, maybe Hailie Deegan could find that IndyCar is more of her calling. Or she could use the Indy NXT Series as her way of honing her skills before another Xfinity Series crack. Then again, that is for future Hailie Deegan to worry about. Instead, her focus will be on the upcoming races from March until August. Naturally, the road is not easy, but the woman is looking forward to the challenge.
Truthfully, she might be a little out of depth, since most of the races at at road courses. In the 14-race calendar, there are only four oval races, at Worldwide Technology, Iowa Speedway, Milwaukee Mile, and Nashville Superspeedway. Some of these, are tracks where Deegan has raced in the past, which should give her a leg up.

In a way, they are right, because Hailie Deegan is a hugely talented driver. Of course, she wasn’t going in blind, but getting some valuable open-wheel experience. Last year, she made her debut in Formula Regional Americas for the Toney Driver Development team. Deegan competed in the season finale’s two races, finishing 11th in her first race, which was impressive. However, in the final race at the Circuit of the Americas, she picked up a point for 10th place.
