All is well that ends well. The proverb proved to be apt for Tyler Reddick on Sunday. Chasing P1 for the second week running, Reddick was desperate to improve his finishing position from Darlington and seal the deal that sent him into the final 12. However, his win came at the expense of beating 23XI Racing owner Denny Hamlin to the finish line.

Denny, yet again, was arguably the most potent car in the field at Kansas, as he was expected to be at his favorite venue. But as the dust from Sunday continued to settle slowly, Hamlin has taken a subtle dig at Team Penske ace and former champion Joey Logano, another contender to steal a win under his nose.

Denny Hamlin voices his grief over losing out on P1 again

After losing out on top spot at Darlington, Hamlin was painted as a sore loser by the NASCAR fandom. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver has faced the brunt of his words and actions numerous times in his career. But the one thing that he has always hated is losing. Even more so when it comes to finishes like the one at Kansas.

Despite a pitch-perfect attempt to grab the trophy, Denny became a victim of some unfortunate circumstances triggered by Chris Buescher’s late wreck.

Hamlin fell behind the leaders on the restart in the final two laps despite having a lead of close to 2 seconds over Reddick for a reasonable amount of time. But the late uprising from Hendrick Motorsports’ #5 Kyle Larson put him in a weird dilemma that eventually cost him another P1 finish.

Summarizing his feelings over watching his driver sneak a win away from him, he spoke on a fresh episode of Actions Detrimental.

“It was almost painful for me to get to victory lane,” claimed Hamlin. “I loved it today, I’m really happy for the #45 team of 23XI cause those are my guys. All those guys say Thanks Boss, and I forget that at times like ‘Yeah, these are my guys.'”

Looks like the 23XI Racing boss had something to cheer for after two weeks of agony. A similar situation unfolded at Darlington last week when, despite being the frontrunner to win the race, he fell short again.

Revealing his unwillingness to see someone ahead of him in the victory lane, Hamlin then continued, “But having to take a picture with Tyler with the trophy he stole from me sucked. Oh, it sucks so bad.”

Hamlin arrived at a crossroads having to choose between himself and his driver Reddick. The #11 driver finished P2 and was hoping to do one better. As the conversation with his long-time partner Jarred Allen went on, he stated that Reddick’s win also came as a consolation for him at the same time.

He exclaimed, “But if I’m gonna lose out because of the late race caution because I’m so happy at least it was them versus somebody else.”

“I mean, had Logano won that race, that would be an absolute non-factor whatsoever, boy that would have stunk even worse. But yeah, at least Tyler was able to get it done. He’s been competitive for the last two weeks in a row, staying up front so they capitalize on the opportunity.”

Joey Logano might have felt that he had caught a stray arrow here. The Team Penske driver was also in solid form going toe-to-toe with the victor until the dying moments of the race. Such quintessential playoff racing action is a preview of what the next races hold for the fans.
