Home/NASCAR

Entering NASCAR as a newbie can be daunting. But when you have the guidance of a former legend, you will always be high on confidence. Garrett Mitchell, A.K.A Cleetus McFarland, is mostly known as a YouTuber who holds various “Cleetus and Cars” events each year. However, in 2025, McFarland appeared in a different capacity. He made his first-ever superspeedway start in the ARCA Menards Series with the help of a racing legend – Greg Biffle.

The 19-time Cup Series race winner is a NASCAR Hall of Famer – who better to learn the ropes of racing from? Greg Biffle extended help to his friend and business associate McFarland for his newest motorsports venture. However, Biffle has one condition for being answerable to McFarland’s performance.

Greg Biffle throws a challenge

The first event ended up in shambles. Cleetus McFarland drove the No. 30M for Rette-Jones Racing and notched up his superspeedway license in the preseason practice. McFarland was preparing for Chili’s Ride the Dente’s 200 at Daytona International Speedway. However, he ran into trouble during the race. Starting 27th, McFarland initially ran well and dodged a massive wreck. But McFarland’s day came to an end after Amber Balcaen got loose and collected him heading out of Turn 2. Despite the result, McFarland said, “I was having the best day of my life, rippin’ around Daytona like a bald eagle.” Now, the YouTuber is gearing up for another superspeedway endeavor under Greg Biffle’s supervision.

After Daytona, Talladega Superspeedway is up next. Preparations for Cleetus McFarland’s second superspeedway start under Rette-Jones Racing are in full swing with Greg Biffle hovering over him and the latter recently threw a challenge. He will acknowledge responsibility for McFarland’s race training only if the latter performs well. Biffle outlined the situation in an interview: “I basically taught him everything he knows about driving a car. And today he’s going to prove that. Now if he does some dumb s— out there, that’s not me – I did not tell him to do that.”

Cleetus McFarland has already displayed glimmers of excellence in his Ford Mustang. During his two-day Daytona session last month, he hovered inside the top ten before landing a 15th spot among the quickest cars. So his 4.07 million YouTube subscribers have not lost faith in McFarland entirely, and neither has Greg Biffle. The 2002 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion outlined the positive scenario for Talladega: “Now if he drives that thing to the front and gets the trophy, and tears up that infield, and we together don’t wear sleeves for two years? That’s what I taught him.”

Devoting time to a noble mission

Last October, Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc in the Southeastern United States. Severe flooding, loss of power, and a high death toll hit the people. Wading through this disaster was a big ordeal, but heroes like Greg Biffle and Cleetus McFarland made things easier. Both motorsports celebrities flew helicopters around North Carolina to carry supplies and execute rescue missions. Ashville was one of the most severely affected locations. McFarland, an Omaha, Nebraska native, described the chaos in his own words. “Take what you’re seeing on the news and multiply it 10x.”

So McFarland’s helicopter, MD 500 nicknamed Consuela, and Greg Biffle’s UTV shop which accumulated supplies were crucial for this disaster. When the two icons were conducting their missions in October, they were swamped with work. Greg Biffle described the chilling situation back then: “Lots of things happening for these stranded people up in the mountains. We’re going to keep the effort going. We’re getting all these messages. Newborns, one week old, need formula, gasoline, chains and chainsaws, bar oil, two-stroke oil, that is the most important thing people are requesting now. We’re going to keep flying this stuff in.” Thankfully, the impact of Hurricane Helene has subsided now and affected people have started rebuilding their lives.
