In a bold move, SHR has announced a series of organizational changes to its crew chief lineup, effective immediately. The reshuffle comes at a crucial time for the team, with only one driver, Kevin Harvick, currently eligible for the playoffs. The changes were introduced just a day before the anticipated announcement of Josh Berry, a regular in the Xfinity Series, as Harvick’s replacement in the No. 4 Ford next season.

The decision to shake up the crew chief lineup underscores SHR’s determination to seize every opportunity that remains in the current season. With only ten races left to qualify for the playoffs, the team faces an uphill battle. While Harvick has managed to maintain his position within the top 16, the remaining SHR drivers—Ryan Preece, Aric Almirola, and Chase Briscoe—have struggled to secure favourable rankings. Briscoe, in particular, faced setbacks due to penalties for illegal parts on his car, leaving him in a challenging 31st position in the standings.

Greg Zipadelli, the chief competition officer for SHR emphasized that these changes were made in the best interests of the entire organization. In a recent interview, he said, “No secret we are not happy with where we have been this year. Some of the cars have run better than others and our expectations with Chase & the 14 car are pretty high. Chase, Johnny & that whole group had pretty good success early on last year. It kind of just feels like it’s gotten a little stale and just kind of needed to shake things up a little bit”

Zipadelli acknowledged the team’s disappointment with the season thus far, expressing the belief that the recent shuffle would infuse new energy into the organization. By bringing in new talent and redistributing expertise within the team, SHR aims to regain its competitive edge and reestablish its position as a top contender in NASCAR.

Among the most notable changes is the promotion of Xfinity Series crew chief Richard Boswell to the position of crew chief for Chase Briscoe and the No. 14 team in the Cup Series. Boswell has an impressive track record, having guided Briscoe to eight Xfinity Series wins between 2018 and 2020.

This reunion between Briscoe and Boswell holds promise for the young driver, who expressed his appreciation for his previous crew chief, Johnny Klausmeier, in a heartfelt tweet. Briscoe believes that Boswell’s return will bring new energy and fresh insights to their collaboration.

Furthermore, John Klausmeier, formerly Briscoe’s crew chief, has transitioned to SHR’s vehicle performance group. This move reflects SHR’s commitment to addressing broader performance issues within the team. By leveraging Klausmeier’s expertise in vehicle performance, SHR hopes to enhance the overall competitiveness of its cars and improve results on the track.
