One of the biggest disappointments this season for NASCAR fans has been Chase Elliott’s performance. The 2020 world champion for Hendrick Motorsports has not won a single race yet. Many have started to believe that he might not even make it to the playoffs being 60 points behind the cutoff points score. Meanwhile, others have said that it won’t even matter if he does as he’s in the worst form of his life. But now in NASCAR’s ‘The Preview Show’, Motorsports Reporter, Alan Cavanna told NASCAR presenter Kim Coon the only thing that can keep the hopes alive for America’s racing star.

With only 6 races to go before the playoffs start. Chase Elliott needs a magical performance if he is to salvage anything from the 2023 season.

Let’s face it, all NASCAR fans want is for Elliott to just win a race. Even Chase himself wants to win. But now, it’s becoming more of a ‘need to win’ than a ‘want to win’. Speaking about the upcoming races, Cavanna and Coon discuss where could he actually pull it off, assuming his dismal run in 2023.

“He [Elliott] is 60 points below the elimination line,” said Cavanna. “You know what that means. He worked all day in New Hampshire, didn’t make up any ground. Imagine going to work all day and not making up any ground, you got nothing to show for it.

Alan, who previously thought Elliott doesn’t need a win to get into the playoffs has now switched sides. “I have officially switched camps. Chase Elliott needs a win, he must win now.” Alan confessed.

Speaking about the upcoming race at Pocono, Coon said, “He says it’s a track he hasn’t really figured out. He’s not confident like he is at other tracks. So much so that he’s running the Xfinity race on Saturday to get some extra seat time. So I just think it’s a no-go, it’s a Poco’no‘ for Chase Elliott this weekend.”

In a bid to get some extra mileage, Elliott has decided to run the #17 Xfinity team at Pocono in the coming weekend. He spoke through Hendrick Motorsports to lay down his expectations for the race.

“Hendrick Motorsports has been fielding this car a handful of races and they asked at the beginning of the year where our interest lied and at what tracks,” said Elliott, as per HendrickMotorsports.com. “Pocono was one of the tracks I was interested in and it just kind of worked out.”

Speaking about the history of the number 17 car, Elliott said, “It is special to the Hendrick family. Driving for them and knowing how much it means to them to have that car on track would be great. I know they have been super close and probably should have a couple by now. Hopefully, we can start racking ‘em up for them.”
