Kyle Larson has already amassed two Cup victories this season. His latest came at Kansas, where he battled Chris Buescher till the end with a determined stance. The HMS star plans to transfer this unabated fire to his Double Duty efforts next weekend as well. Hence qualifying for the Indy 500 race is his top priority, which is clashing with the All-Star Race practice and qualifying. Larson will forego the latter for his Double pursuits. This is where retired driver Kevin Harvick comes in.
A few weeks ago, Rick Hendrick approached Harvick with a proposal, to drive in Larson’s stead at North Wilkesboro. With his wife’s blessings, the current FOX broadcaster heartily accepted. Larson, a three-time All-Star Race winner, is eager to share some track tricks with him.

Kevin Harvick is a seasoned NASCAR Cup driver who hung up his firesuit only a few months ago. Holding 60 race wins and the 2014 Cup championship, Harvick brings unparalleled expertise to the table. He also won the All-Star Race twice, in 2007 and 2018. Yet taking the wheels of a Hendrick Motorsports car might take some adjustment.
Hence Kyle Larson is eager to guide him through this weekend. Ever since Larson confirmed Harvick’s entry at the Dover Race, he has been mum about it. He finally broke his silence recently, talking to Bob Pockrass. The No. 5 Chevrolet driver specified he has not fixed up a meeting with Harvick yet. “Personally, I don’t have a time that I’ve heard about, debriefing with Kevin. But I figured I was just gonna shoot him some text messages after the practice and all that, just to see what he thought of things and his experience.”
Kyle Larson said he doesn't have a full debrief with Kevin Harvick scheduled, that he likely will shoot Harvick some texts Friday night after Harvick practices and qualifies the car for the all-star race. He then will likely talk with crew chief Cliff Daniels on Saturday. pic.twitter.com/lXZfTOmg2S

A face-to-face encounter will soon follow this online interaction. Kyle Larson hopes to sit down with Harvick and the entire No. 5 team to brush up on essentials. “Then I think I have my own meeting with Cliff and our team on Saturday at some point. I’m sure that’s gonna clear it all out: learn about how things are going, changes made to the car, what they thought of the tire, track surface, and all that. So yeah, I’m gonna catch up on him later this weekend.”

Kyle Larson has only appeared in an Indy Car thrice, and his third attempt was no less than marvelous. In an Indy Open Test, the HMS star drove the No. 17 Chevrolet Arrow McLaren to remarkable speeds. He recorded a best lap of 226.384mph, scoring only below Josef Newgarden, who is the defending race winner.

Post that endeavor, Larson elaborated on how he is just getting comfortable with his ride. “I was already building tire understeer and Newgarden got by me and I really was super-tight (understeering) behind him, so just trying to learn all that, process all that and just knowing what I can do in the car to try to help cope with that… just trying to figure out any bit of racecraft today, which I know is tough. Trying to get an idea on things and just get notes in my head and get comfortable.”
Considering Larson’s patient and steady progress, the HMS star seems highly likely to grab the Indy 500 victory.
