The hope is that Rockingham eventually returns to the NASCAR arena. It is worth mentioning that the last NASCAR race at the Rockingham Speedway was a Truck Series race in 2013. Since then, the iconic race track has witnessed a number of changes, including a change in ownership.

How did the NASCAR community react to the Rockingham news?

As it happens, the Rockingham restoration has largely been possible because of the American Rescue Plan. This plan allotted $9 million to restore the race track. Furthermore, the North Wilkesboro Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway also received a tidy sum for the same. Needless to say, a large number of fans cannot contain their excitement at all.

As one fan commented, “Proof that God is a NASCAR fan and that he loves us. LETS GOOOO!!!”. Admittedly, some people decided to pump the brakes a little and take a cautious approach. They believe that NASCAR will not be so quick to rush to Rockingham so fast. Even the likes of IndyCar will also be a little hesitant. So it makes more sense for a different racing series, like the SRX Series, to break in the new changes.

That being said, it did not take away the general enthusiasm for the news. The track truly is historic, as the first race was held all the way back in 1964. It was also a regular feature on the Cup Series calendar, all the way until 2003. Bill Elliott actually has the honor of being the last winner at the Rockingham Speedway. So, it would be truly incredible to see the track’s return after more than two decades.
