Not long ago, the news broke that veteran NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick will retire at the end of the 2023 season. Consequently, there was an outpouring of tributes for the 2014 Cup Series champion from various distinguished personalities. Among them were the likes of his team owner Tony Stewart, and even former NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace had his say. Wallace spoke about how Harvick will go about competing in his final Cup Series season.
Wallace said on his YouTube channel, “How wonderful would it be for Harvick to get into that Chase for the Championship. Go out like he came in, a winner. I just really like what Kevin Harvick has got going on here“. In essence, he is hoping that the Stewart-Haas Racing legend’s swan song will be a great send-off.

Harvick has also insisted that if he is stepping away, then it will be for good, and he won’t be coming back for one-off races. As it turns out, Wallace was referring to Harvick’s debut, where he came in to replace the late great Dale Earnhardt, and made an instant impact.

For the moment, the #4 driver will be hard at work preparing for the new season. It may be his final season in the sport, but it is no less important. So it is fairly obvious that “Happy Harvick” wants to end things on a high. After all, he has been consistently competitive every season, even if 2022 was not exactly among his better ones. Though he managed to reach the Playoffs last year, he was eliminated in the opening round itself.
This season will give him a chance for redemption and he will want to improve from last year. But he will have to be wary of other drivers, especially from Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing.

Additionally, Joey Logano proved in 2022 that Team Penske should not be underestimated either. Finally, there are teams like Trackhouse Racing Team and 23XI Racing, who could prove to be the dark horses. One thing is for sure though, the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series campaign will be fiercely contested among the drivers and Harvick will have to give it his all to succeed.
