Home/NASCAR

For every athlete out there, age and physical fitness play a major role in their career. For example, once an NBA star loses his ability to jump high and slam dunk, they will have no choice but to retire. However, when it comes to NASCAR, it is all about your reflexes and driving prowess.

Obviously, at 60, a driver cannot continue driving with the same ease as he once drove in his 20s. But 40 or even late 40s is perhaps no age for NASCAR drivers to quit their racing careers. Even Dale Earnhardt drove till he was 49. So how is this discussion about NASCAR drivers getting old and quitting relevant at all?

Kenny Wallace impressed with Brad Keselowski’s ingenious idea

In NASCAR, sponsorships play a major role in deciding the future of any driver with their respective teams. The sponsors are solely concerned about ROI. They want the money they are investing to be brought back into the business. And say a driver has one bad year, the sponsors would not think twice before revoking their money from the driver and letting someone else in. However, Brad Keselowski has his way out of this tricky situation.

Let’s take the instance of the last Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway. Chris Buescher drove down the victory lane holding off Martin Truex Jr as he bagged his second consecutive NASCAR Cup Series win of 2023. A proud moment for RFK Racing and team owner Brad Keselowski. Brad finished 4th after Truex and Denny Hamlin. A commendable performance for the #6 Ford icon as well.

But Brad Keselowski is 39 years old. Looking at how Clint Bowyer quit NASCAR at 41 and Kevin Harvick is going down that way at 45, it seems unlikely for him to continue for more than 5 years. But here is the twist.

Kenny Wallace in a recent episode of The Kenny Wallace Show said, “I told Brad (that) I was very impressed how you went to Victory Lane. He’s playing the car on her part. Get them before they get you.” So what is the genius plan?

Brad Keselowski is a racer, but he is an owner too. Would he fire himself? Probably not. Even if the name of Jack Roush is very dominant in RFK Racing, Brad Keselowski is a solid driving force for the Cup Series team.

Wallace said, “I’m sure Jack still is the man, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

“Brad’s still running real good but I will say this, if not for Brad Keselowski, Roush Racing would not be where they are at now,” he added.

Indeed, with the round of 16 just around the corner, RFK Racing is in a very good position. Both Brad Keselowski and Chris Buescher have corkscrewed their spots in the playoff berth.

A RFK Racing fan admitted his support towards the team and admitted, “I’ve been a fan of Roush Racing since their expansion from road racing into NASCAR, and weathered many up and downs over the decades. Congrats to you guys on this current upswing. I hope it continues. Best of luck in the playoffs.”

Indeed, what Brad Keselowski has done for RFK Racing in just a brief span of 2 years is worth applauding. On that note, an enthusiast wrote, “Absolutely proud of all you have done in 2 years!! See you in Kansas!

“I’m happy for everyone at RFK! It was just a matter of time,” said another.
