In 2021, Hendrick Motorsports became the NASCAR team with the most Cup wins to their name. Over the course of their history, the team has seen many giants drive their Chevys. However, one man has stayed put from the very start, and that man is the founder and owner, Rick Hendrick.

Mr. H, as he is otherwise known, is inarguably the greatest team owner in the sport’s history.

But a man of his stature and his success isn’t necessarily someone you’d guess to be toilet papering someone’s house. Yet that’s exactly what happened to Geoff Bodine.

In a recent episode of the Dale Jr. Download, Bodine revealed the story of the time when Hendrick and his wife TP’d his house.

It all started when everything was about to come to an end for Hendrick Motorsports, when Rick Hendrick was “done“, to the point that he was “gonna shut the door.”

“He wasn’t even gonna let us go to Martinsville,” Bodine recalled.

Regardless, they ran at Martinsville. But despite that, the Hendrick couple didn’t attend the race. “He and Linda were in a church conference in Greensboro, they weren’t even there (Martinsville) and we won,” Bodine said.

He continued, “After the race didn’t have these things, so Rick didn’t even know he won. He didn’t even know he won, he called his mom up and said, ‘Ma, what happened at Martinsville?’ ‘Ricky, Ricky, he won the race, he won the race.'”

“So they (Rick and Linda) went to my house, and I was living just south of Greensboro and then toilet papered my house. That was a celebration.”

“It wasn’t Rick Hendrick” – Geoff Bodine on why he signed up for Hendrick Motorsports

Geoff Bodine revealed that when he signed for Hendrick Motorsports, he wasn’t doing it for the boss.

Instead, it was because he wanted to race for someone else at Hendrick.

“The story is, we talked in Rick’s office…he promised only maybe 15 races, but I wanted to drive the car because of Harry Hyde, it wasn’t Rick Hendrick,” Bodine said. “I wanted to drive for that guy because he was the winner, a winning crew chief.”

“I thought with Harry Hyde though, I was gonna win. He’s going to show me how to win, teach me how to win.”
