In conversation with Kenny Wallace, Bodine delves into the origins of his name, revealing that his parents opted for the unconventional spelling “Geoff” to reflect his distinctiveness. Over the years, Geoff Bodine encountered challenges with his name pronunciation, leading him to make a pivotal decision. “I’d be walking down Pit Road to get my car, I hear Jeff I turn around! They didn’t want me; they wanted one of those other Jeffs,” Geoff Bodine recalls.

He further made analogies to Jeffery Chaucer and stated the reason why he changed his name to ‘Jeffery’, calling it a PR move that turned out well for him off the field.

Geoff Bodine’s NASCAR journey took a whimsical turn when he found himself responding to “Jeff” calls meant for other racers like Jeff Gordon or Jeff Green. Determined to end the confusion, Bodine decided to switch gears and became “Jeffrey” on the racetrack. From that day forward, if someone didn’t say “Jeffrey,” he wouldn’t even bat an eye. This clever PR maneuver not only cleared up the mix-ups but also added a touch of humor to Pit Road interactions, ensuring that when the name Jeffrey echoed, it was unmistakably for him.
