An unfortunate mechanical issue prevented Bubba Wallace from completing his qualifying session at Atlanta Motor Speedway. It resulted in him starting from the rear for the main race. However, Wallace remains confident that he can surpass these obstacles and give a good account of himself in the race. The exact problem remains a mystery, as Wallace only refers to it as his “secrets”.
The qualifying procedure took a one-lap format with two rounds: all drivers had to compete for the fastest time, with the ten fastest then advancing to the final round.

Bubba Wallace’s frustrating qualifying session at Atlanta Motor Speedway abruptly ended when a mechanical issue caused major handling issues with his car. After earlier inspection trouble and losing pit selection and a crew member, #23 Toyota had to abandon his lap before completing it. When a NASCAR NBC reporter asked him, “You could not make a qualifying lap. You’ve had time to check in with your team. What was the car giving you regarding feedback, and what did you ultimately figure out happened?”
Wallace replied, “Just really, really loose, a feeling I’ve never had before. So, I brought it in. So, we didn’t tear up a good lighthouse Toyota Camry. Found out what the issue was. Frustrating, but we’ll fix it and go and get them more.” Upon being asked for more detail about the nature of the difficulty, Wallace remained tight-lipped, instead quipping, “It’s our secrets.”

Before the Cup Series race, NASCAR penalized three teams and confiscated pit stall selection privileges and a crew member for the week.
