NASCAR had originally planned to run its first-ever all-electric racing series starting next year. However, the plans have seemingly hit a snag, as their talks with Dodge to be the fourth OEM stalled. The car company had been showcasing its interest to rejoin the NASCAR field very soon. But as of now, things seem to have gone to a standstill.

It is still not clear as to what would have caused the delay, some speculate that perhaps the talks of getting Dodge into the new series falling down the crack might have been one of the reasons. Regardless, now it seems that the all-electric series will not come to light next year, as initially proposed. As to when will it arrive is not known, but according to sources, when it does come full circle it would be what the Xfinity series serves to NASCAR at this point in time.

However, with the prospect of having an all-electric racing series that aims to perhaps replace one of the support series, the fans of the sport are undeniably caught in an awkward spot.

Taking a look at what the fans have to say about the electric series, it is evident that almost nobody wants to have the unfortunate luck of watching it take place.

Fans have even threatened to never return to watching the sport ever again. A few even speculated that NASCAR probably created the electric series just to entice Dodge’s interest in the sport.

There is certainly a stigma surrounding electric vehicles, especially in the racing world. Though multiple top racing events around the world are now making the change to showcase their intent to go sustainable one day. The lack of the pure heart-pounding sound produced by these gas-churning machines is what perhaps makes motorsport so interesting for fans around the world. Take that away, and it is sure to upset a vast majority of the true fans.

While it is also true that slowly over time we all might move towards a more eco-friendly solution, would that mean we could soon lose some of the greatest sights and sounds of the sport that we love? Perhaps, or perhaps not, only time will tell what lies ahead of us.
