Actor-turned-racer Frankie Muniz has been vocal about his racing career. The 39-year-old ‘Malcolm’ star was navigating his way to the pinnacle of racing for a long time. In 2024 he signed a deal with Reaume Brothers Racing to make his first full-time NASCAR appearance. However, his decision to continue his acting career alongside NASCAR is looking to increase his challenges.
In a recent interview with Fox Sports, Muniz spoke about it. He revealed that despite the demanding filming schedule, Muniz’s focus remains on NASCAR. He emphasized that the producers of the reboot worked around his racing commitments. “So, we haven’t filmed it yet. It’s gonna make my April pretty interesting ‘cause I’ll be commuting. They are working around my NASCAR schedule… So we’re filming Sunday through Thursdays with me getting Thursdays off to fly to race Friday to fly back Saturday to film Sunday through Wednesday,” he told Fox Sports.
Given the amount of work Muniz put into his NASCAR dream, it’s no surprise he chose to side with his motorsports ambitions. In 2023, he attempted breaking through via the ARCA Menards Series, with one top-five and 11 top-10 finishes. Eventually, he joined Ford Performance, a program that let him participate in a few Xfinity races. His performances were enough to secure a full-time ride with Reaume Brothers Racing. Now that he has his seat in the Truck Series, Malcolm in the Middle is coming back in the way again.

Notably, the project gained momentum once the original creator Linwood Boomer, and the core cast were on board. The upcoming film will feature Muniz reprising his role as Malcolm, the brilliant but troubled middle child. The storyline sees Malcolm returning home to celebrate his parents’ 40th wedding anniversary, joined by Hal and Lois (Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek). While the involvement of Malcolm’s brothers remains unclear, the revival will consist of four episodes set to debut on Disney+ next year.
After the original series ended in 2006, Muniz shifted the gears of his career entirely after meeting Jeff Gordon while shooting a scene of Spin City. His dedication to motorsports led him to compete in various racing series, including the Formula BMW USA Championship, the Champ Car Atlantic Championship, and others. From 2007 to 2009, Muniz raced in the Champ Car Atlantic Championship. However, his 2009 season ended prematurely because of a wrist injury.

Looking ahead, Muniz expressed his determination to balance both careers successfully. “My focus will still be being in the race car, but I’ll just have to do a little bit of acting on the side,” Muniz told Fox Sports.
