What makes the sport of NASCAR stand out from the rest? In the bigger picture, the simple answer might be the sheer thrill of the race or the undying passion for the sport. However, hardcore fans love the contrasting personalities of the sport, the passion for racing, and the truly unpredictable nature of the sport. Actually, NASCAR is the melting pot of all these fascinating elements and that’s exactly why fans love the sport so much.

Reacting to the recent All-Star race, enthusiasts and NASCAR on Fox’s coordinating director gave the community a detailed analysis of what the sport really stands for.

Kaulig Racing spotter and popular NASCAR pundit, Brett Griffin and his co-host of the popular podcast, Door Bumper Clear, were joined by Artie Kempner as the group actively discussed the most polarizing driver of the sport, Ross Chastain.

Fox’s Director gives a masterclass on basic building blocks of the sport as he takes up Ross Chastain’s case

Love him or hate him, but Ross Chastain is definitely someone who you can’t ignore being a part of the NASCAR community. While his super aggressive racing style has garnered him quite the backlash from the community, interestingly, it’s the same bat-out-of-hell attitude and the cut-throat mentality that has earned him the support of many.

Despite his repeated encounter with the Hendrick Motorsports ace, Kyle Larson has yet again landed him in hot water. Kempner believes it’s the nature of the driver that has catapulted him into fame. Reflecting on the value of entertainment the fans crave, he said, “We want people to cheer and boo, we want people to be passionate.”

Further, he mentioned the building block of the sport, This sport was built on rivalries. Let’s look at the people that drivers that fans have hated, right?”  With Brett Griffin and the show’s co-host, Casey Boat listening, the Director named a handful of legendary drivers that went through similar phases in their careers, including Dale Earnhardt Sr, Darrell Waltrip, and Rusty Wallace

Most of them all went through that times, meaning not everybody was David Pearson who could just somehow drive around you without you even knowing he was there, right? So not everybody was Richard Petty, I mean when they deem you “the king” you can’t root against the king, right?” he asked while stating the obvious nature of the sport.

Furthermore, Kempner used Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson‘s examples to prove his point, “Jeff Gordon pretty much hated by a lot of people.” Even taking the case of the only 7-time champion in the sport, how passive the great was during his days, not getting into fights or wrecking other drivers while being the top dog during his glory days.

We try not to be melodramatic when we do our, we just try to see what you are seeing out there.” he said as he lauded the Trackhouse Racing star, “Ross Chastain takes you to the action.”

Kill or be killed, that seems to be the approach Chastain brings to the track. While the driver is almost risking it on the track each time, Kempner feels the risk factor and racing needs a subtle line of distinction. “Risk or reward, you just can’t take the risk every time,” said the Director.

Taking a page out of Gordon’s early career, back when Gordon was wrecking almost everybody on the track. Kempner recalled Darrell Waltrip‘s comments about the then-young Gordon to Rick Hendrick. After witnessing the carnage on track, as per Kempner Waltrip said to Hendrick, “This boy is not gonna make it.”

As he drew out close enough parallels between the drivers, Kempner perfectly described the Larson-Chastain feud, he said, “you are not looking to wreck other people, but cant wreck yourself and he has cost himself some opportunities, as many opportunities as he costed Kyle Larson, he has cost himself as much.”

Will the #1 driver change his ways and mellow down, turning the wreck fest into momentum? The only way to find out is to tune in for the next race at Charlotte.
